3M Tegaderm Diamond Pattern Transparent Film Dressing — Comfort Adhesive Technology, Breathable & Secure, 3 Sizes
The only Tegaderm built around a patterned adhesive — more breathable, firmer hold, gentler removal. Tegaderm Diamond Pattern Film Dressing by 3M is a transparent IV and wound dressing built around a fundamentally different adhesive design: Comfort Adhesive Technology — a diamond-patterned coated film where the adhesive is applied in a geometric pattern rather than as a continuous layer. This patterned application creates channels in the adhesive surface that allow moisture to escape laterally away from the skin, dramatically improving moisture vapor transmission while simultaneously maintaining firm adhesion in humid and moist environments. The patterned adhesive also permeates the irregular microstructure of skin when applied with firm pressure, increasing total adhesive contact area for better hold — and releases gently on removal to minimize skin irritation. The result is a dressing that balances three properties that usually trade off against each other in transparent film design: breathability, adhesion strength, and atraumatic removal. Up to 7-day wear. Waterproof. Viral barrier tested. Three sizes.
✔ Patterned Comfort Adhesive Technology — Channels Moisture Away, Holds Firm ✔ Increased Breathability — High MVTR Without Sacrificing Adhesion ✔ Gentle Release — Minimizes Skin Irritation on Removal ✔ Waterproof Viral & Bacterial Barrier ✔ Up to 7-Day Wear ✔ Latex-Free, Picture-Frame Delivery

How Tegaderm Diamond Works — Comfort Adhesive Technology Explained
Standard transparent film dressings apply adhesive as a continuous uniform layer across the entire backing. This creates a solid adhesive-to-skin interface that works well under normal dry conditions but has two inherent limitations: moisture that forms under the dressing has nowhere to go except to gradually lift the adhesive at the edges, and the adhesive-skin bond can be difficult to break on removal without skin trauma.
Tegaderm Diamond's Comfort Adhesive Technology solves both problems through geometry:
- Diamond-patterned adhesive — the adhesive is applied in a repeating diamond pattern rather than as a solid layer. The gaps between diamond adhesive elements create open channels across the dressing surface that allow moisture vapor to migrate laterally and escape — dramatically increasing effective moisture vapor transmission without changing the film itself.
- Adhesive permeation under pressure — when applied with firm pressure, the diamond-pattern adhesive elements deform and permeate the irregular microscopic surface of skin, increasing the total area of adhesive-skin contact beyond what a smooth continuous layer achieves. The result is stronger adhesion in challenging conditions, particularly on skin with moisture or irregular texture.
- Moisture channeling reduces maceration risk — by directing moisture laterally away from the skin surface rather than allowing it to pool, the patterned adhesive actively reduces the risk of periwound skin maceration that compromises both skin integrity and dressing adhesion over extended wear.
- Gentle release on removal — the non-continuous adhesive pattern means a lower total adhesive-skin bond area compared to a solid layer of the same adhesive. Combined with the flexible film, this allows the dressing to release with significantly less force on removal, reducing skin irritation and trauma — particularly important for patients with fragile or sensitive skin.
- Low-profile conformable film — the flexible polyurethane film conforms closely to body contours, preventing the edge stress and lifting that causes early dressing failure on curved or high-movement sites.
- CRBSI prevention support — by controlling moisture accumulation at the catheter site, the dressing addresses one of the primary environmental risk factors for catheter-related bloodstream infection.

Application Instructions
- Prepare the skin — clean and dry the IV or wound site thoroughly before application
- Remove the dressing from sterile packaging immediately before use
- Position using the picture-frame delivery — accurate placement without touching the adhesive
- Apply with firm pressure from center outward — firm pressure activates the Comfort Adhesive Technology by allowing the patterned adhesive to permeate the skin surface for maximum contact
- Remove the frame backing after the dressing is adhered
- Monitor the site through the transparent film — continuous observation without dressing removal
- If showering, use a waterproof cover over the dressing and IV site
- Change at 7 days maximum or sooner as clinically indicated
