3M Adaptic Touch Non-Adhering Silicone Dressing — Pain-Free, NPWT Compatible, 4 Sizes
The wound contact layer that stays in place, passes exudate freely, and removes without pain — now with NPWT compatibility for fragile wound structures. Adaptic Touch Non-Adhering Silicone Dressing is a flexible, open-mesh primary wound contact layer made of cellulose acetate coated with a soft-tack silicone — engineered to solve the two most common wound contact layer problems simultaneously: exudate pooling that leads to maceration and secondary dressing adherence that causes pain and tissue trauma at dressing changes. The advanced open-mesh design allows free vertical passage of wound exudate from the wound bed into the secondary absorbent dressing, preventing pooling at the wound surface. The soft-tack silicone coating prevents the secondary dressing from adhering to the wound — the contact layer stays in place during positioning and patient movement, but releases atraumatically at dressing change without disrupting newly formed granulation tissue or causing pain. Semi-transparent throughout for continuous wound bed inspection without removal. Suitable for use under Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) under medical supervision to protect fragile wound structures — a critical capability not available in standard non-adherent gauze dressings.
✔ Soft-Tack Silicone — Stays in Place During Wear, Releases Atraumatically on Removal ✔ Open-Mesh Design — Free Exudate Passage, Prevents Pooling & Maceration ✔ NPWT Compatible — Protects Fragile Wound Structures Under Negative Pressure ✔ Semi-Transparent — Wound Bed Visible Without Removal ✔ Cut to Size With Interleaves On — Won't Stick to Gloves or Lose Integrity

Indicated For — Wound Types
- Partial and full thickness chronic wounds — venous ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers
- First and second degree burns
- Donor sites and skin graft sites — primary contact layer protecting graft from secondary dressing adherence
- Surgical wounds and post-operative incisions
- Lacerations, abrasions, and skin tears on fragile skin
- Wounds under Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) — protects fragile wound structures from foam contact under medical supervision
- Any wound where pain at dressing change is a clinical concern
- Any wound where secondary dressing adherence to the wound bed is a risk
- Wounds on patients with fragile, sensitive, or reactive periwound skin
- Any dry to heavily exuding wound requiring a non-adherent contact interface with free exudate passage
Note: Adaptic Touch is a contact layer only — a secondary absorbent dressing is always required. When used under NPWT, use only under medical supervision. If the wound shows signs of infection, remove the dressing and assess the wound directly per local clinical protocol.
How It Works — Advanced Mesh Design + Soft-Tack Silicone
Standard non-adherent dressings — petrolatum gauze, perforated film dressings — solve one problem but create others. Petrolatum gauze reduces adherence but limits exudate passage and can macerate periwound skin. Perforated film dressings restrict exudate transfer to the perforations only, leaving much of the wound surface without drainage and creating pooling between the holes. Adaptic Touch addresses both problems through its advanced mesh architecture and silicone coating working together. The open cellulose acetate mesh allows unrestricted fluid passage across the entire dressing surface — exudate moves freely and evenly into the secondary dressing above, preventing the localized pooling that leads to maceration and secondary dressing adherence. The soft-tack silicone applied to the mesh provides the holding and release properties: it generates just enough adhesion against dry periwound skin and wound edges to keep the contact layer in place during patient movement and repositioning, while creating zero adhesion against the moist wound surface — peeling away cleanly and atraumatically at every dressing change regardless of wound stage or exudate level.
- Advanced open-mesh design — exudate passes freely across the full dressing surface, not just through perforations
- Prevents exudate pooling — reduces risk of maceration and secondary dressing adherence to wound
- Soft-tack silicone — holds against periwound skin during wear, releases atraumatically from wound bed at removal
- Minimizes pain at dressing change — clinically validated atraumatic removal across wound types
- Stays in place during positioning and patient movement — no displacement between dressing changes
- Secondary dressing changed independently — contact layer can be left undisturbed while secondary is replaced
- NPWT compatible — protects fragile granulation tissue and wound structures under negative pressure foam
- Semi-transparent — wound progression visible at any time without removing the contact layer
- Cut with interleaves on — maintains structure, does not stick to scissors or gloves during preparation
- Works across the full exudate spectrum — dry to heavily exuding wounds without product change
- Sterile and latex-free — appropriate for all clinical and home wound care settings
Choosing the Right Size
| Item # | Size | Qty/Box | Best Used For |
|---|---|---|---|
| 500501 | 3" x 2" | 10/box | Smallest size — IV sites, small lacerations, toe and finger wounds, compact surgical sites, and minor burns |
| 500502 | 3" x 4.25" | 10/box | Standard size — general pressure ulcer, venous ulcer, diabetic foot ulcer, and post-surgical wound management |
| 500503 | 5" x 6" | 10/box | Medium-large — broader wound coverage for larger pressure injuries, donor sites, burns, and NPWT applications |
| 500504 | 8" x 12¾" | 5/box | Largest size — extensive burns, large donor sites, full-limb wound coverage, NPWT, and any wound requiring maximum single-piece contact layer area — cut to any shape needed |
Application Tip: Select a size that overlaps onto intact periwound skin by at least 1cm on all sides — the soft-tack silicone holds against this intact skin margin. Apply with the printed side facing up. Cover immediately with an appropriate secondary absorbent dressing. The contact layer can be cut to shape before or after removal from packaging with interleaves on to prevent sticking to gloves or scissors.
