BSN Cutimed Sorbact Gel — DACC Bacteria-Binding Hydrogel Wound Dressing, 3x3 & 3x6
Removes bacteria from the wound physically — not chemically. No resistance. No toxicity. No additives released into the wound. Cutimed Sorbact Gel by BSN Medical combines a preservative-free hydrogel with Sorbact® DACC (dialkylcarbamoyl chloride) technology — a green wound contact layer that physically binds hydrophobic bacteria and fungi to the dressing fiber on contact, then removes them from the wound bed when the dressing is changed. Because DACC acts through physical binding rather than chemical kill, bacteria cannot develop resistance to it — and no active agents are released into the wound to cause cytotoxicity or sensitization reactions.
✔ DACC Sorbact® Technology — Physically Binds & Removes Bacteria ✔ No Resistance Development Possible ✔ No Active Agents Released — No Cytotoxicity ✔ Preservative-Free Hydrogel — Up to 7-Day Wear

Indicated For — Wound Types
- Infected, colonized, and contaminated wounds — dry to low exudate
- Clean wounds at risk of infection
- Pressure injuries — all stages
- Venous leg ulcers
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Surgical wounds — including dehisced post-operative wounds
- Traumatic wounds
- Sloughy or partially necrotic wounds requiring autolytic debridement alongside bioburden reduction
- Wounds where antibiotic resistance, silver sensitivity, or cytotoxic reactions are a concern
Contraindications: Do not use on patients with known sensitivity to DACC or cellulose acetate. Do not use with fatty products such as ointments, creams, or oily solutions — these reduce DACC binding effectiveness. Do not use in direct contact with bone, tendons, exposed blood vessels, organs, or nerves. Do not wrap around extremities. Single use only — do not re-sterilize or reuse.
How DACC Sorbact® Technology Works — Physical Binding vs. Chemical Kill
Most antimicrobial wound dressings — silver, iodine, PHMB — kill bacteria through chemical action. This has well-known limitations: chemical agents can be cytotoxic to healing tissue, sensitization reactions can develop, and perhaps most critically, bacterial resistance can evolve over time in response to chemical antimicrobials. DACC technology works on a completely different principle. The green Sorbact® wound contact layer is coated with dialkylcarbamoyl chloride — a hydrophobic coating that mimics the mechanism bacteria use to adhere to host tissue. Bacteria and fungi are naturally hydrophobic and bind irreversibly to the DACC fiber on contact. When the dressing is changed, the bound organisms are physically removed from the wound. No chemicals are released. No cell walls are disrupted. No endotoxins are triggered. No resistance can develop because there is no chemical agent to develop resistance against.
- DACC coating on the green wound contact layer physically binds hydrophobic bacteria and fungi
- Bacteria and fungi are bound irreversibly on contact — unable to replicate or release toxins
- Bound organisms are removed from the wound when the dressing is changed
- No active chemical agents released into the wound — no cytotoxicity, no sensitization risk
- No disruption of bacterial cell walls — no release of inflammatory endotoxins
- No known bacterial or fungal resistance — physical binding mechanism cannot be evolved against
- In vitro testing shows activity against the Top 5 WHO priority pathogens
- Hydrogel component donates moisture and supports autolytic debridement of slough and necrotic tissue
- High moisture-donation capacity — facilitates debridement while managing bioburden simultaneously
- Preservative-free hydrogel base — low risk of allergic or sensitivity reactions
- Clinically documented in published studies — no known contraindications
How to Apply
- Prepare the wound per clinical protocol — do not dry completely before applying
- Select the appropriate dressing size for the wound
- Remove the dressing from the sterile peel pouch using aseptic technique
- Ensure the green Sorbact® side makes direct contact with the entire wound bed — this is essential for DACC binding to work
- Gently press the dressing against the wound surface
- Apply an appropriate secondary dressing over the Cutimed Sorbact Gel
- Change based on wound condition — up to 7 days if clinically appropriate
- In wounds showing signs of active infection, more frequent inspection is advised
- Single use only — discard after each change, do not reuse
Cutimed Sorbact Gel vs. Cutimed Gel — What's the Difference?
Both are BSN Medical products with preservative-free hydrogel. The critical difference is bioburden management.
- Cutimed Sorbact Gel (this product) — DACC bacteria-binding technology combined with hydrogel. For infected, colonized, or contaminated wounds where bioburden reduction is as important as debridement. No chemical antimicrobials — no resistance risk
- Cutimed Gel (7261001 / 7261002) — Hydrogel only, no antimicrobial component. For clean wounds requiring gentle autolytic debridement without bioburden concerns. Amorphous applipak format
