ConvaTec Stomahesive Paste — Pectin-Based Ostomy Barrier Paste, 2 oz Tube
Fill the gaps. Level the surface. Keep the seal. ConvaTec Stomahesive Paste (ESENTA Stomahesive, #183910) is the clinical standard pectin-based hydrocolloid ostomy barrier paste — used as a filler and caulking agent to smooth out uneven skin surfaces, skin folds, scars, and creases around the stoma before applying the skin barrier wafer. By creating a flatter, more even pouching surface, Stomahesive Paste helps the skin barrier adhere more securely, prevents stoma output from tracking under the wafer, and extends ostomy system wear time. Not an adhesive — Stomahesive Paste is a filler that works by filling the gaps that would otherwise allow leakage to begin. The light tan paste applies directly to skin or to the adhesive side of the skin barrier wafer from a convenient 2 oz squeeze tube. Compatible with colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy systems. FSA eligible. Sold individually or by the box of 30 tubes.

⚠ Important: Stomahesive Paste contains alcohol. Do not apply directly to open wounds, skin ulcers, or broken skin — it will cause stinging and may worsen irritation. If peristomal skin is already irritated or denuded, consult your ostomy nurse (WOCN) before use. For external use only. If sensitivity or reaction occurs, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.
Features & Benefits
- Pectin-Based Hydrocolloid Formula — Stomahesive Paste is formulated with pectin, a naturally derived hydrocolloid ingredient that gently adheres to peristomal skin without being harsh or sensitizing. The hydrocolloid base absorbs moisture from the skin surface, helping to manage the perspiration and moisture that can undermine skin barrier adhesion over time. The formula is designed to be non-sensitizing, making it appropriate for regular ongoing use by patients with sensitive peristomal skin
- Filler & Caulking Agent — Not an Adhesive — Stomahesive Paste works by filling in the uneven terrain around the stoma — skin folds, wrinkles, creases, surgical scars, and contour irregularities — to create a flat, even surface for the skin barrier wafer to sit on. Think of it as caulking for the space between the stoma and the skin barrier edge. By eliminating gaps and channels in the pouching surface, it prevents stoma output from finding a path under the wafer and contacting the skin. It does not glue the wafer to the skin — the wafer's own adhesive provides the seal
- Extends Ostomy System Wear Time — One of the most common causes of premature skin barrier failure is leakage that begins at an uneven or poorly sealed edge. By smoothing out the pouching surface and eliminating the gaps where output can begin to track, Stomahesive Paste helps the skin barrier maintain its seal longer — extending wear time and reducing the frequency of unplanned pouch changes
- Protects Peristomal Skin — When stoma output contacts peristomal skin it causes chemical irritation, inflammation, redness, and skin breakdown that can quickly become painful and difficult to manage. Stomahesive Paste helps maintain the integrity of the pouching seal that keeps output away from skin — reducing the risk of peristomal skin complications that are one of the most common and distressing problems for ostomy patients
- Dual Application — Skin or Barrier — Stomahesive Paste can be applied in two ways: directly to the peristomal skin to fill folds and uneven surfaces before placing the wafer, or directly to the adhesive side of the skin barrier wafer around the stoma opening to reinforce the seal. Most clinicians and patients develop a preferred technique — both methods are appropriate and clinically effective
- Compatible with Most Pouching Systems — Stomahesive Paste is compatible with ConvaTec Stomahesive and Durahesive skin barriers and is also widely used with other major ostomy system brands. It is suitable for colostomy, ileostomy, and urostomy applications across one-piece and two-piece pouching systems
- Easy-to-Use 2 oz Squeeze Tube — The light tan paste comes in a 2 oz easy-squeeze tube that allows controlled, precise application around the stoma opening without mess. The tube format is portable and convenient for travel, overnight trips, and on-the-go pouch changes
- FSA Eligible — Stomahesive Paste is a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) eligible expense — allowing patients to purchase with pre-tax dollars as part of their ostomy care supply budget
Indications & Appropriate Use
- Colostomy patients with skin folds, creases, or uneven peristomal skin contours
- Ileostomy patients — particularly important given the caustic nature of ileostomy output and the high leakage risk on uneven surfaces
- Urostomy patients requiring a secure seal around the stoma base
- Post-surgical patients with scars, suture lines, or irregular abdominal contours near the stoma
- Patients with abdominal folds or obesity-related contour challenges around the stoma
- Any ostomy patient experiencing premature skin barrier failure or leakage at the barrier edge
- Patients transitioning from hospital to home who need to extend wear time and protect skin integrity
Not appropriate for: Application to open wounds, skin ulcers, or significantly denuded peristomal skin. If peristomal skin is already broken or severely irritated, consult a wound, ostomy, and continence nurse (WOCN) before using any paste product.
Application Instructions
Method 1 — Apply to Skin
- Clean and dry peristomal skin thoroughly before application
- Apply a thin bead of Stomahesive Paste directly to the skin around the stoma base, filling in any folds, wrinkles, or uneven areas — do not spread into a thin layer, apply as a bead into the grooves
- Allow paste to set for 30–60 seconds before applying the skin barrier wafer
- Apply the skin barrier wafer over the paste and press firmly with even palm pressure to distribute the paste and seat the barrier
Method 2 — Apply to Barrier Wafer
- Clean and dry peristomal skin thoroughly before application
- Apply a thin ring of Stomahesive Paste to the adhesive side of the skin barrier wafer, close to the stoma opening — avoid spreading paste near the outer edges of the wafer
- Place the barrier over the stoma and press firmly with even palm pressure to seat the wafer and distribute the paste
Removal tip: Stomahesive Paste can be difficult to remove from skin. Use warm water, adhesive remover wipes, or a dedicated ostomy paste remover to soften and gently lift residual paste at each barrier change. Do not scrub — scrubbing damages peristomal skin.
