Molnlycke Mepore Film Transparent Film Dressing — Skin-Friendly Adhesive, Primary & Secondary Use, 4 Sizes
Breathable, elastic, transparent — and genuinely gentle on skin. Mepore Film by Molnlycke is a thin, self-adhesive polyurethane transparent film dressing built around a skin-friendly adhesive that holds securely without the skin stripping, irritation, or painful removal that standard film dressings can cause — particularly on fragile or sensitive skin. The elastic film stretches and conforms with body movement, maintaining continuous adhesion and a moist wound environment across irregular body contours without lifting or creating pressure at the edges. A viral and bacterial barrier, fluid impermeable, and breathable — used both as a primary dressing on clean, non-exuding wounds including IV sites, abrasions, and closed surgical wounds, and as a secondary fixation dressing over hydrogels, alginates, and foam dressings. Frame-style delivery with supporting release paper for easy application with or without gloves. Available in four sizes.
✔ Skin-Friendly Adhesive — Gentle on Sensitive & Fragile Skin, Limits Tissue Damage on Removal ✔ Elastic Polyurethane Film — Conforms to Body Contours, Flexes with Movement ✔ Viral & Bacterial Barrier — Fluid Impermeable ✔ Primary or Secondary Use ✔ Frame Style — Easy Application With or Without Gloves

Indicated For — Wound Types & Applications
- Clean, non-exuding wounds in the granulation and epithelialization phase — primary dressing
- IV catheter and peripheral catheter site protection and fixation
- Abrasions and lacerations
- Superficial burns
- Closed surgical wounds
- Superficial pressure ulcers
- Skin graft donor sites
- Secondary fixation dressing over hydrogels (e.g. INTRASITE Gel), alginates, and foam dressings
- Prevention of skin breakdown on at-risk skin
- Fragile or sensitive skin where standard adhesive film dressings cause trauma on removal
Note: Mepore Film is designed for clean, non-exuding or minimally exuding wounds. It is not indicated for heavily exuding wounds as the film does not absorb exudate — excess moisture beneath the dressing can cause maceration. For exuding wounds, use an absorbent primary dressing with Mepore Film as the secondary cover.
How Mepore Film Works — What Makes It Different
Most transparent film dressings use a standard acrylic adhesive that bonds aggressively to skin — effective for adhesion but problematic on removal, particularly on fragile skin, newly formed epithelium, and patients on steroids or with radiation-damaged skin where skin stripping is a real risk. Molnlycke's skin-friendly adhesive on Mepore Film is specifically formulated to hold securely during wear while limiting damage to newly formed tissue on removal — making it a better-tolerated option for patients who need repeated film dressing applications or who have skin that can't withstand aggressive adhesive removal.
- Skin-friendly adhesive — holds securely throughout wear; limits the risk of newly formed tissue damage and skin stripping on removal; well tolerated on sensitive and fragile skin
- Elastic polyurethane film — stretches with body movement and conforms to irregular contours without lifting at edges or creating tension that disrupts wound healing
- High breathability — moisture vapor permeable film maintains the moist wound environment needed for healing while preventing moisture accumulation that leads to maceration
- Viral and bacterial barrier — fluid impermeable film prevents external contamination and contains residual wound exudate; tested barrier against viruses ≥25nm in diameter
- Transparent film — continuous wound observation without dressing removal; allows caregivers to assess healing progress and dressing integrity at every visit
- Frame-style delivery — supporting release paper and frame allow accurate placement and smooth application with or without gloves; no adhesive contact during positioning
Mepore Film vs. Other Transparent Film Dressings — When to Choose It
| Clinical Situation | Best Choice |
|---|---|
| Fragile or sensitive skin — repeated dressing changes | Mepore Film — skin-friendly adhesive limits trauma on removal |
| Diaphoretic patient or high-moisture environment | Tegaderm HP — higher adhesion for challenging conditions |
| Standard IV site or wound in typical conditions | Tegaderm Standard or IV3000 — broad clinical standard |
| Need to track wound size over time | OpSite Flexigrid — built-in wound measurement grid |
| Secondary fixation over hydrogel or foam — sensitive skin | Mepore Film — gentle adhesive, good conformability |

Choosing the Right Size
- 270600 (2-2/5 x 2-3/5") — Smallest size. IV sites, peripheral catheters, small abrasions, and limited coverage areas. Box of 100 — best value for high-volume use.
- 271500 (4 x 5") — The general-purpose standard size. Central line fixation, standard wound coverage, and secondary dressing over gauze pads or hydrogel dressings. Box of 70.
- 272500 (4 x 10") — Elongated format. PICC lines, limb wounds, surgical sites that run along the body rather than across it. Box of 20.
- 273000 (6 x 8-1/2") — Largest size. Large wounds, post-surgical sites, donor sites, and secondary coverage over larger foam or alginate dressings. Box of 10.
Application Instructions
- Clean the wound and dry the surrounding skin thoroughly
- Select the appropriate size — the dressing should overlap the wound edges by at least 2–3 cm on all sides
- Open the sterile package and remove the dressing using the frame without touching the adhesive surface
- Position the dressing over the wound using the frame for accurate placement
- Apply with light pressure from the center outward, smoothing to conform to body contours
- Remove the frame and release paper after the dressing is positioned and adhered
- Press around all edges to ensure full adhesion
- Monitor the wound through the transparent film — change when clinically indicated or when the dressing lifts
- To remove: lift one corner and slowly stretch the film parallel to the skin — do not pull perpendicular, especially on fragile or sensitive skin
