Description

Smith & Nephew OpSite Flexigrid Transparent Film Dressing — Built-In Wound Measurement Grid, 5 Sizes

A transparent film dressing that does two jobs at once — protects the wound and tracks its progress. OpSite Flexigrid by Smith & Nephew is a highly extensible, conformable polyurethane transparent film dressing built around a unique wound measurement grid printed directly onto the carrier. After applying the dressing, the clinician traces the wound edges against the grid to document wound size, then removes the carrier and stores it in the patient's notes — creating an accurate, dated wound progression record without any additional tools, tracings, or measurement devices. The film itself is waterproof, moisture vapor permeable, and acrylic-adhesive, providing a moist wound healing environment for superficial wounds and functioning as a reliable secondary dressing over primary wound fillers — up to 7-day wear. Available in five sizes from 2-3/8 x 2-3/4 inch through 6 x 8 inch.

✔ Built-In Wound Measurement Grid — Documents Wound Size at Every Dressing Change    ✔ Highly Extensible & Conformable — Adapts to Heels, Elbows, Knees & Difficult Contours    ✔ Waterproof — Patients Can Bathe Without Dressing Change    ✔ Moisture Vapor Permeable — Prevents Maceration    ✔ Up to 7-Day Wear    ✔ Can Be Cut to Any Shape or Size

Indicated For — Wound Types & Applications

  • Superficial wounds — shallow pressure sores, minor burns, scalds, abrasions, lacerations
  • Secondary dressing over primary wound fillers — INTRASITE Gel, ALLEVYN Cavity, and other amorphous hydrogels or cavity dressings
  • Post-operative wounds and surgical sites
  • Skin graft donor sites
  • Leg ulcers in the final stage of healing
  • Catheter fixation — IV and urinary catheter sites
  • Periostomal skin protection — around stoma and under leg bags
  • Friction and pressure injury prophylaxis — protection of at-risk skin from external contamination and mechanical trauma
  • Relief of pain in painful diabetic neuropathy (as an adjunct)
  • Clinically infected wounds — with appropriate medical supervision and systemic treatment in place

The Flexigrid Wound Measurement Grid — How It Works

Tracking wound healing progress accurately over time requires consistent, repeatable wound measurement. OpSite Flexigrid builds this into the dressing itself — eliminating the need for separate wound tracers, measurement rulers, or photography at every dressing change.

  • Step 1 — Apply the dressing with the carrier grid facing up over the wound site. The transparent film and grid allow accurate visual positioning over the wound bed.
  • Step 2 — Trace the wound edges directly onto the carrier grid using a standard ballpoint pen. The grid squares provide an immediate, scaled reference for wound area documentation.
  • Step 3 — Remove the carrier from the applied dressing. The dressing remains in place on the wound; the carrier with the wound tracing comes off cleanly.
  • Step 4 — File the carrier in patient notes. The traced grid becomes a dated wound measurement record that can be compared directly at each subsequent dressing change — allowing objective tracking of wound reduction or growth over time.

This built-in documentation system supports clinical wound assessment protocols without adding time or additional supplies to the dressing change process.

How OpSite Flexigrid Works — Film & Adhesive

  • Highly extensible polyurethane film — stretches significantly in all directions to conform to body contours and flex with patient movement, maintaining adhesion without creating pressure points or lifting at edges
  • High moisture vapor permeability (MVTR) — allows excess exudate to evaporate through the film, preventing the moisture accumulation and maceration that can occur under less permeable films
  • Moist wound environment — retains natural wound exudate at the wound bed to support moist wound healing for superficial wounds while allowing excess moisture to escape
  • Waterproof acrylic adhesive film — resists water and body fluid penetration, allowing patients to bathe without dressing removal or disruption
  • Bacterial barrier — transparent film provides physical separation between the wound bed and external contaminants, helping reduce infection risk
  • Single-handed 2-tab delivery — flexible carrier enables one-handed application; transparency allows precise positioning over the wound before committing the adhesive
  • Cuttable to shape — can be cut into strips or custom shapes for difficult anatomical locations including heels, elbows, and knees where rectangular dressings fold or bunch

Choosing the Right Size

  • 66024628 (2-3/8 x 2-3/4") — Small wound sites, catheter fixation, IV sites, minor abrasions. Box of 100 — best value for high-volume use.
  • 66024629 (4 x 4-3/4") — Standard central wound coverage, pressure sore management, secondary dressing over standard gauze or gel pads.
  • 66024630 (4-3/4 x 10") — Elongated wound sites, limb wounds, donor sites requiring extended coverage in one direction.
  • 66024631 (6 x 8") — Large wound coverage, post-surgical sites, skin grafts, or wounds requiring maximum surface area in a near-square format.
  • 66024632 (6 x 10") — Largest size — maximum coverage for very large wounds, extensive post-operative sites, or large donor sites.

Application Instructions

  1. Gently clean the wound, remove any debris, and dry the surrounding skin thoroughly
  2. Select the appropriate Flexigrid size — ensure the dressing will overlap the wound edges by at least 2–3 cm on all sides
  3. Remove the first backing paper (marked "1") — do not touch the adhesive surface
  4. Place the dressing over the wound using light pressure with the grid carrier facing up — use the transparent film and grid for accurate positioning
  5. Remove the second backing paper (marked "2") and smooth the dressing down, pressing around all edges to secure
  6. If recording wound size: trace the wound edges onto the carrier grid with a ballpoint pen, then remove the green carrier and store in the patient's notes
  7. Wear for up to 7 days or change as clinically directed
  8. To remove: lift one corner and slowly stretch the film parallel to the skin surface — do not pull perpendicular to the skin, particularly on fragile or thin skin
