Smith & Nephew OpSite IV3000 Standard Moisture Responsive Catheter Dressing — One-Hand Delivery, Orange Tape Handles, 2 Sizes
The original IV3000 delivery format — one-handed aseptic application with orange tape handles for peripheral and central catheter fixation. IV3000 Standard by Smith & Nephew is the one-hand delivery version of the IV3000 moisture-responsive catheter dressing line — built around the same REACTIC polyurethane film technology that makes IV3000 the clinical standard for catheter site moisture management, delivered through a format with distinctive orange adhesive tape handles that allow quick, secure, one-handed aseptic application. The orange handles can be left in place as part of the dressing for additional catheter securement, or torn away after application — providing flexibility for different clinical preferences and catheter types. Available in two sizes: 4 x 5-1/2 inch for peripheral IV and midline catheters (#4925), and 4 x 5-1/2 inch for central and jugular catheters (#4973).
✔ REACTIC Film — Moisture-Responsive, High MVTR, Keeps IV Site Dry ✔ One-Hand Delivery — Orange Tape Handles for Aseptic Application ✔ Handles Optional — Leave in Place or Remove After Application ✔ Grid Pattern Adhesive — Reduces Pain on Removal ✔ Up to 7-Day Wear ✔ Waterproof — Patients Can Bathe with Dressing in Place

Note on 4925 vs. 4973: Both dressings share the same size and REACTIC film. The distinction is the intended catheter application — 4925 is configured for peripheral IV and midline catheters, while 4973 is specifically designed for central venous and jugular catheter sites. Confirm the appropriate SKU with your clinical protocol.
Indicated For
- Peripheral venous catheter fixation — short peripheral and midline catheters (4925)
- Central venous catheter (CVC) fixation (4973)
- Jugular catheter fixation (4973)
- Any IV site where moisture accumulation and CRBSI risk reduction is a clinical priority
- Patients who require up to 7-day dressing wear between scheduled changes
Note: IV3000 is indicated for IV catheter sites only. For open wounds, burns, or donor sites, use OpSite Flexigrid instead. Apply to dry, prepared skin only. Do not stack or overlap dressings.
How IV3000 Standard Works — REACTIC Film & Grid Adhesive
IV3000's core technology is the REACTIC film — a polyurethane film with a unique molecular structure that becomes significantly more permeable to water vapor in the presence of moisture. Where standard polyurethane IV films have a fixed MVTR regardless of site conditions, REACTIC film responds dynamically: when moisture builds up beneath the dressing, the film switches to a higher permeability state, allowing that moisture to evaporate rather than pool. IV3000 averages a moisture vapor transmission rate over five times that of its nearest competitor when in contact with fluid — keeping the catheter site measurably drier throughout the wear period.
- REACTIC film prevents moisture accumulation — drier skin under the dressing means less bacterial growth, better dressing adhesion, and fewer unscheduled dressing changes
- CRBSI risk reduction — moisture control at the catheter site directly addresses one of the primary environmental drivers of catheter-related bloodstream infection
- Grid pattern adhesive — the adhesive is applied in a grid pattern rather than as a continuous layer, which distributes removal force across the adhesive contact points and reduces pain and skin trauma when the dressing is removed
- Orange tape handles — allow accurate one-handed aseptic placement without touching the film or adhesive surface; handles can remain in place after application to provide additional mechanical securement around the catheter hub, or be removed cleanly if preferred
- Highly conformable film — the IV3000 film flexes with patient movement while maintaining firm adhesion around the catheter hub, minimizing catheter dislodgement risk during activity
- Transparent for continuous monitoring — the insertion site can be visually inspected for signs of infection or phlebitis at every clinical visit without removing the dressing
- Waterproof — resistant to water and body fluids; patients may bathe or shower with the dressing in situ
- Up to 7-day wear — reduces nursing time, limits dressing change frequency, and minimizes catheter dislodgement risk associated with repeated dressing changes

Application Instructions
- Prepare the skin — clean and dry the catheter site thoroughly before application
- Open the sterile package immediately before use
- Hold the dressing by the orange tape handles — do not touch the film or adhesive surface
- Position the dressing over the catheter insertion site, centering the film over the hub
- Apply with light pressure from center outward, smoothing to ensure full adhesive contact
- Decide on handles: leave in place for additional catheter securement, or tear away cleanly after application
- Monitor the site through the transparent film at each clinical visit — no dressing removal needed for visual inspection
- Change at 7 days maximum, when saturated, or per clinical protocol
- To remove: lift one corner and stretch the film parallel to the skin — do not pull perpendicular
