A concentrated phosphoric acid-based cleaning and deodorizing solution for reusable rubber, latex, and plastic urinary and ostomy appliances. Formulated to dissolve calcium deposits and urine crystal build-up — the primary sources of odor, discoloration, and flow restriction in reusable urinary leg bags, pouches, catheters, and tubing. Effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria and viruses including MRSA and VRE. Fresh citrus scent. Diluted in warm water for use; agitation and a cleaning brush pass through all ports except the anti-reflux valve. Available in 4oz small (700204) and 16oz standard (700216) sizes. Latex free. Made in USA. By Urocare.

How to Use
- Squeeze ½ oz (15 mL) of Urolux solution into the soiled appliance
- Add one cup (250 mL) of warm water and agitate the appliance contents several times during a 15-minute soak
- Pass the cleaning brush through all adaptors and plastic parts — do not pass the brush through the red anti-reflux valve
- Flush the contents with clean water
- Wash the outside of the appliance with mild hand soap, rinse, and towel dry
- Adjust Urolux concentration and soak time based on the degree of soiling
Key Features
- Phosphoric acid formula — dissolves calcium mineral deposits and urine crystal build-up that accumulate inside reusable urinary and ostomy appliances over time
- Broad-spectrum antimicrobial — effective against a wide range of bacteria and viruses including MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and VRE (vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus)
- Deodorizes — neutralizes and eliminates odors; leaves equipment with a fresh citrus scent
- Compatible with rubber, latex, and plastic appliances — safe for urinary leg bags, ostomy pouches, catheters, and tubing
- Concentrated liquid — diluted with warm water before use; ½ oz per cup of water for standard cleaning
- Gentle on appliance materials when used as directed
- Extends appliance life — regular cleaning prevents mineral accumulation that restricts flow and degrades appliance materials
- Latex free | Made in USA
- Contains phosphoric acid — handle with care; avoid skin and eye contact
Clinical FAQs
Why do reusable urinary appliances develop calcium deposits and urine crystals?
Urine contains dissolved minerals — primarily calcium, magnesium, and phosphate — along with urea and ammonia compounds. In a disposable single-use appliance, these minerals are discarded with the bag. In a reusable appliance washed and reused over weeks or months, these minerals gradually precipitate out of solution and adhere to the inner surfaces of the appliance — forming a white or yellowish encrustation called calcium deposits or urine scale. As bacteria in residual urine decompose urea into ammonia, the alkaline environment accelerates crystallization. Over time these deposits narrow tubing, restrict flow through valves and adaptors, create surface roughness that harbors bacteria, and are the primary source of persistent urine odor that standard soap and water cannot eliminate. Phosphoric acid — the active ingredient in Urolux — is a mild acid that dissolves calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate deposits by breaking down the mineral matrix chemically, removing the encrustations that water-based washing leaves behind.
Why must the cleaning brush not be passed through the red anti-reflux valve?
The red anti-reflux valve in Urocare reusable leg bags is a mechanical one-way valve with a flexible elastomeric membrane or flapper that prevents urine backflow. The membrane is precisely sized and tensioned to open under urine flow pressure and close against backflow. Passing a cleaning brush through the valve physically disrupts the membrane — it can stretch, tear, or permanently deform the valve element, causing it to fail in the open position (allowing backflow) or the closed position (blocking drainage). Urolux solution and the soak/flush cycle clean the valve through chemical action and water flow — this is sufficient for the valve's internal surfaces. Reserve the cleaning brush for the hard-sided tubing, adaptors, and plastic parts where mechanical agitation is needed to remove calcium deposits that chemical soaking alone cannot fully address.
What does "effective against MRSA and VRE" mean for a home appliance cleaner?
MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) and VRE (vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus) are antibiotic-resistant bacteria most commonly associated with healthcare-associated infections. Listing efficacy against these specific organisms indicates that Urolux has been tested against and shown to kill these particularly resistant pathogens — a higher standard of antimicrobial efficacy than a general disinfectant claim. For patients who are immunocompromised, who have had prior MRSA infections, or who use urinary appliances in healthcare facility settings, this efficacy claim is clinically relevant. For routine home users with standard infection risk, general cleanliness and calcium dissolution are the primary benefits; the MRSA/VRE efficacy provides additional confidence that regular Urolux cleaning of reusable appliances adequately disinfects them beyond what household cleaners could achieve.
