What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is a chronic condition where excess fluid called lymph collects in tissues causing edema or swelling. Lymphedema, in short, is swelling due to lymphatic fluid. It is a blockage of the lymphatic system which is a very important part of our immune and circulatory systems. Lymphedema more commonly affects one of the arms of legs. In rarer cases, both arms and/or both legs can be affected, sometimes even the head, genitals, or chest. Lymphedema is incurable; however, it can be controlled with care.
What is DVT?
DVT, also known as Deep Vein Thrombosis, is the formation of a blood clot in a "deep vein," usually this happens in a calf or thigh muscle. DVT can either partially or completely block blood flow in the vein, which can cause chronic pain and swelling. It can also damage valves in blood vessels which makes it difficult for a person to get around.
