3M Tegaderm PICC/CVC Securement Device + I.V. Advanced Dressing — Sutureless, 7-Day Wear, 2 Sizes
Stronger hold than sutures. No needlestick risk. Removes cleanly every time. The 3M Tegaderm PICC/CVC Securement Device + I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing is a complete all-in-one catheter securement system that replaces sutures entirely — delivering clinically proven higher pull force, eliminating suture-related needlestick injuries, and providing up to 7 days of continuous wear with gentle, residue-free removal. The system pairs a silicone-adhesive catheter securement device with a highly breathable transparent I.V. dressing in one convenient sterile package, accommodating the majority of single, double, and triple lumen PICC and CVC catheters up to and including 12 French. No mechanical doors. No wings. No sticky residue. Applied in one smooth sequence and removed one-handed without alcohol.
✔ Proven Higher Pull Force Than Sutures — Clinically Tested Securement ✔ Sutureless — Eliminates Needlestick Injury Risk ✔ Silicone Adhesive — Holds Securely, Repositionable, Removes Gently ✔ Transparent Film — Continuous Site Visibility Without Dressing Removal ✔ Fits Most PICC & CVC Catheters Up to 12 French

Indicated For — Clinical Applications
- PICC line securement — single, double, and triple lumen catheters up to 12 French
- Short-term CVC securement — replacing sutures at the insertion site
- Any catheter securement situation where suture-related needlestick injury risk needs to be eliminated
- High-acuity patients requiring long-duration catheter placement with minimal dressing disruption
- Patients with sensitive or fragile skin requiring gentle adhesive securement
- Clinical settings following CDC 2011 Guidelines recommending sutureless securement devices for intravascular catheters
Note: If infection is suspected, remove the dressing and inspect the catheter site directly. The securement device does not fit well on catheters without a winged hub, such as most arterial catheters or those with a luer-lock connection. If the site is bleeding or oozing, use a gauze dressing until resolved per CDC guidelines.
How It Works — What Makes It Different
Sutures are the traditional method of securing PICC and CVC catheters — but sutures introduce needlestick injury risk at placement and removal, cause patient discomfort, and create a disrupted entry site that increases bacterial colonization risk. The 3M Tegaderm PICC/CVC system was specifically engineered to replace sutures entirely without compromising securement strength. In simulated clinical testing the system withstood the sudden high pull force of a 2.5-pound dropped weight 100% of the time — a force level that caused competitive securement devices to fail every attempt. That strength comes from the silicone adhesive securement device, which grips the catheter hub without mechanical clamps or doors, holds through patient movement, and can be repositioned during initial application without losing adhesion. The I.V. Advanced Dressing over the top uses a pattern-coated adhesive — a breathable design that manages moisture at the skin interface, extends wear time, and peels away one-handed without leaving residue.
- Clinically proven higher pull force than sutures — 24 out of 24 drop-weight tests passed vs. 0 out of 24 for competitive device
- Silicone adhesive — repositionable at initial placement, holds securely through full 7-day wear, removes without alcohol
- No mechanical doors or wings — simple, intuitive application with visual cues to guide correct placement
- Pattern-coated adhesive dressing — breathable, moisture-managing film that preserves skin integrity over extended wear
- Transparent film provides continuous insertion site visibility — assess for complications without removing the dressing
- Picture-frame delivery system — precise one-handed dressing placement without sticking to gloves
- Securement tape strips promote consistent, enhanced catheter stabilization and resist soiling
- Stabilization border is flexible and conformable — reduces edge lift on active or mobile patients
- Eliminates suture-related needlestick injury risk — reduces associated clinical and financial costs
- Sterile, hypoallergenic, latex-free — appropriate for sensitive patients and all clinical settings
The Securement System — What's In the Kit
Each sterile kit contains all components needed for a complete, sutureless PICC or CVC securement change — applied step by step in a single, teachable sequence. The kit design makes it easy to standardize the securement procedure across clinical staff, reducing application variability and improving outcomes consistency.
| Component | Function |
|---|---|
| Silicone Securement Device | Grips catheter hub without mechanical clamps — repositionable, holds securely, removes cleanly |
| I.V. Advanced Securement Dressing | Transparent, breathable, waterproof film over the insertion site — pattern-coated adhesive, picture-frame delivery |
| Securement Tape Strips | Enhance catheter stabilization, film-coated to resist soiling and reduce unnecessary dressing changes |
| Stabilization Border | Flexible, conformable border reduces dressing edge lift on mobile or active patients |
Choosing the Right Size
- 1837-2100 — Dressing 3½" x 4½" (8.5cm x 11.5cm) — Smaller dressing size — ideal for patients with limited insertion site real estate, pediatric applications, or sites on the neck or chest where a compact dressing footprint is preferred. Securement device pad: 2" x 2⅛".
- 1839-2100 — Dressing 4" x 6⅛" (10cm x 15.5cm) — Larger dressing size — the standard choice for most adult PICC and CVC applications, providing broader coverage of the insertion site and surrounding skin. Securement device pad: 2" x 2⅛".
