Description

Smith & Nephew Solosite Wound Gel — Amorphous Hydrogel, 3 oz. Tube

Stays gel. Stays clear. Gets the wound moving. Smith & Nephew Solosite Wound Gel is a water-swellable amorphous hydrogel that donates moisture to dry, necrotic tissue, absorbs wound exudate, and supports autolytic debridement — all while remaining crystal clear so wound progress can be monitored at any time. Unlike gels that thin out or liquefy as they absorb, Solosite's unique polymer stays gel-like until fully saturated — remaining active in the wound longer and requiring fewer dressing changes.

✔ Water-Swellable Polymer — Stays Gel Until Saturated    ✔ Crystal Clear — Continuous Wound Visualization    ✔ Rehydrates & Desloughs Dry Eschar    ✔ Non-Cytotoxic, Non-Sensitizing

How Solosite Works — and What Makes It Different

Most hydrogel wound gels thin out and migrate away from the wound bed as they absorb exudate. Solosite behaves differently — its water-swellable polymer absorbs fluid and swells in place, maintaining its gel structure throughout the dressing change interval. This means the gel stays active against necrotic tissue longer, requires fewer changes, and maintains a consistent moisture environment at the wound surface rather than running off. The formula is crystal clear and physically stable — it doesn't change color as it works, so the wound can be assessed visually through the gel without removing the dressing.

  • Water-swellable polymer stays gel-like until fully saturated — active longer than standard gels
  • Donates moisture to dry, sloughy, and necrotic wound tissue — rehydrates and softens eschar
  • Absorbs wound exudate while retaining gel structure — manages both dry and mildly draining wounds
  • Supports autolytic debridement — helps deslough necrotic tissue without sharp debridement
  • Crystal clear formula — wound can be visualized through the gel without removing the dressing
  • Physically stable — does not change color as it absorbs, enabling continuous wound observation
  • Non-cytotoxic — gentle to fragile granulation tissue and surrounding healthy skin
  • Non-irritating and non-sensitizing — safe for sensitive and fragile skin types
  • Allantoin in the formula helps soothe and condition wound tissue during healing
  • Removes with gentle saline irrigation only — no scrubbing, no mechanical trauma to healing tissue
  • Multi-dose tube fits reimbursement parameters for wound care protocols
  • FSA eligible — can be purchased with Flexible Spending Account funds

How to Apply

  • Cleanse the wound with saline or an appropriate wound cleanser and pat dry
  • Apply Solosite Gel to cover the entire wound bed approximately 5mm thick
  • Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing — gauze, foam, or transparent film
  • Change the dressing daily or as directed by a physician
  • To remove: irrigate gently with saline — no mechanical scrubbing required
  • For sunburn: reapply regularly to prevent the wound from drying out
  • For best results: smear on, do not rub in
  • External use only — do not use in or near eyes

1 oz. vs. 3 oz. — Which Size Is Right?

  • 1 oz. Tube (449700) — Ideal for smaller wounds, minor burns and cuts, short-term treatment, or evaluating Solosite for a new patient
  • 3 oz. Tube (449600) — Best value for larger wounds, pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, and chronic wounds requiring consistent ongoing gel application
