Mobility Scooters: 3-Wheel, 4-Wheel & Heavy-Duty Guide 2026
div style="text-align: start;">
Mobility Scooters — A Complete Buyer's Guide for 2026
There is a version of this story where you get your life back. You go to the farmers market on Saturday. You keep up with the grandkids at Disney. You stop sitting in the car while everyone else walks the pier. You measure every outing by how far you want to go — not by how far your legs will carry you.

There is another version where you buy the wrong scooter. Too big to fit through your front door. Too small to handle the sidewalk outside the restaurant. Too unstable on the grass at the outdoor concert. It gets used twice and lives in the garage next to the exercise bike.
The difference between those two outcomes almost always comes down to the same thing: the right scooter for your actual life. Not a spec sheet. Not what was on sale. Not what someone else uses. That is what this guide is built to help you find. We are Medical Department Store — five showrooms across Southwest Florida, RESNA-Certified Mobility Specialists on staff, test drives available, and we will be direct with you about what fits your situation even if that means pointing you toward a different model. We have been doing this for 25 years in this market. We know the difference.

Before You Look at a Single Model — Five Questions That Determine Everything
Answer these honestly first. They will eliminate half the market before you read a spec sheet.
1. Where will you use it most?
Indoors — hallways, stores, restaurants, medical offices? Or outdoors — sidewalks, parks, events, trails? Or both? This one question determines whether you need a tight turning radius above all else, or a stable, terrain-capable platform. An indoor scooter on rough pavement is uncomfortable and potentially unsafe. An outdoor scooter that will not fit between restaurant tables is useless at dinner.
2. How will you transport it?
Car trunk? Airplane? Cruise ship? Or does it live at home and go everywhere from there under its own power? If transport is essential, you are looking at travel scooters — models that disassemble or fold. If the scooter stays home, a full-size or heavy-duty model gives you far more capability for the same money.
3. How far do you need to go on a single charge?
Battery range on every spec sheet is a best-case number — flat pavement, moderate temperature, average-weight rider. In Southwest Florida summer heat, plan for 20–30% less. Know your realistic daily mileage and build in a buffer. Running out of charge two miles from the car is not a minor inconvenience.
4. What is your weight — including what you carry?
Your body weight plus everything you regularly carry — a bag, a portable oxygen concentrator, groceries — should not exceed 85% of the scooter's rated capacity. Running a scooter at its limit stresses motors, shortens battery life, and wears the drivetrain faster. If you weigh 290 lbs and carry gear, look at 400-lb models, not 300-lb ones.
5. Do you have any balance concerns?
Three-wheel scooters turn tighter but are less stable — especially on inclines, turns, and uneven terrain. Four-wheel scooters are more planted by design. If you have balance issues, a history of falls, or significant weakness, four wheels is not an upgrade. It is the right answer.
The Three Categories — What Separates Them and Who Each One Serves
Travel Scooters (3-Wheel and 4-Wheel)
Built to come apart. They disassemble into manageable pieces — or fold flat — so you can lift them into a car trunk, check them at an airline gate, or roll them onto a cruise ship. The heaviest single piece on most models is 20–45 lbs. The trade-off for that portability is capability: smaller motors, shorter range, lower weight limits, and less ground clearance than full-size units. For most people whose primary need is community mobility — errands, appointments, restaurants, travel — a travel scooter is exactly the right tool.
Full-Size Scooters
Larger, heavier, and more capable. Better seats, longer range, higher top speeds, more stability. They typically do not disassemble for a car trunk — you need a vehicle lift or you drive them everywhere from home. For patients who use their scooter in the neighborhood and community daily, a full-size model delivers significantly more performance per dollar than a travel model.
Heavy-Duty & All-Terrain Scooters
Maximum performance, maximum capability. Higher weight capacities (up to 450+ lbs), powerful motors, rugged tires with serious tread, extended range, and top speeds that approach 11 mph. Built for larger users and for patients who want to go places standard scooters simply cannot — trails, grass, gravel, uneven terrain. The most capable machines in the category, priced accordingly.
3-Wheel Travel Scooters — Nimble, Light, Tight Turning
Three wheels give you the tightest turning radius in the category — ideal for indoor environments, restaurant aisles, medical offices, grocery stores. They disassemble or fold quickly for car transport and most are airline-approved. The trade-off vs. four wheels is stability, particularly on turns and uneven outdoor surfaces. If your life is mostly indoors and you need a scooter that disappears into your trunk, start here.
Pride Go-Go Elite Traveller 2 Platinum
37" Turning Radius · EZ Turn Technology · 39 lb Heaviest Piece · Assembled in the USA · Our Top Indoor Travel Pick
The Go-Go Elite Traveller 2 Platinum solves the problem that trips up most travel scooter shoppers: how do you get a four-wheel-stable turning radius in a three-wheel package? Pride's EZ Turn Technology does exactly that — it delivers a 37-inch turning radius that competes with the tightest 3-wheel models while keeping the chassis stability of Pride's premium platform. For patients who need to navigate tight restaurant tables, narrow hallways, and crowded stores without a 5-point turn, this is the scooter that makes that possible.
The feather-touch disassembly breaks into five lightweight pieces with the heaviest at 39 lbs — manageable for most adults loading into an SUV or van. Pride's Charge360 magnetic charging snaps into place without alignment fussing. Up to 13.8 miles of range on the 18Ah battery. Assembled in the USA.
- Turning radius: 37" — tightest in our 3-wheel travel lineup
- EZ Turn Technology — 3-wheel turning in a premium travel package
- Heaviest piece: 39 lbs · 5-piece feather-touch disassembly
- Range: 8.8 miles (12Ah) / 13.8 miles (18Ah) · Speed: 4.23 mph
- Capacity: 300 lbs · Charge360 magnetic charging system

Best for: Daily users who spend most of their time in restaurants, stores, and indoor environments where tight turning radius is the priority. Anyone who has struggled to maneuver a standard travel scooter in confined spaces.
Golden Buzzaround XL — 3-Wheel (GB121B)
Suspension · Comfortable All-Day Seat · Golden's Most Popular 3-Wheel Travel Scooter
The Buzzaround XL is Golden's best-selling 3-wheel travel scooter because it gets the comfort details right — a larger, better-padded seat than most travel models, a suspension system that genuinely smooths out SW Florida's cracked sidewalks and parking lot transitions, and Golden's proven reliability track record. For patients who plan to use their scooter every single day and want a unit that feels good doing it, the Buzzaround XL is worth the step up from entry-level pricing.
- Suspension — noticeably smoother on SW Florida's uneven surfaces
- Larger, better-padded seat than most 3-wheel travel models
- Easy disassembly for car transport
- Golden Technologies build quality and reliability
Best for: Daily users who want all-day comfort in a travel-ready 3-wheel scooter. Anyone who has tried a cheaper unit and knows what comfort they have been missing.
WHILL Model R — 3-Wheel
Smart Urban Design · App-Connected · Doesn't Look Like a Scooter · 325 lb Capacity
The WHILL Model R occupies a category of its own. It looks nothing like a traditional mobility scooter — sleek, compact, modern enough that most people do not immediately recognize it as a medical device. For patients who have resisted a scooter because of how it would make them look or feel in public, the WHILL removes that barrier entirely. Smartphone app connectivity for trip tracking and remote monitoring. Tight turning radius for urban environments and indoor use. It is the scooter for people who said they would never use a scooter.
- Modern design — does not look like a traditional medical scooter
- Smartphone app connectivity · Tight urban turning radius
- Capacity: 325 lbs
- Available in 3-wheel and 4-wheel configurations
Best for: Style-conscious patients and younger users who want the function of a scooter without the medical device aesthetic. Urban environments, restaurants, anyone for whom appearances matter.

4-Wheel Travel Scooters — Stability You Can Feel
Four wheels is not just a number — it is a fundamentally different stability platform. More planted on turns, more confident on inclines, better suited to any outdoor surface with irregularity. The trade-off is a slightly larger turning radius than three-wheel models. If you have any balance concerns, spend meaningful time outdoors, or have felt unsteady on a three-wheel scooter, start here.
Pride Go-Go LX 4-Wheel with CTS Suspension
CTS Suspension · Stadium Seat · Flip-Up Armrests · Pull Directly to Any Table
The Go-Go LX earns its place with three features that separate it from most competitors. CTS (Comfort Technology Suspension) smooths out the bumps that SW Florida's sidewalks, parking lots, and building thresholds deliver every day. The stadium-style seat is deeper and more supportive than standard travel scooter seating. And the armrests flip up — which means you pull directly to a restaurant table, a desk, a kitchen counter, without the armrests blocking you. For patients who eat out, that last feature matters every single time.
- CTS Suspension — smoother ride on uneven surfaces
- Stadium-style seat — deeper and more supportive
- Flip-up armrests — pull directly to any table
- Top speed: 5 mph · Range: 9.5 miles · Capacity: 300 lbs
Best for: Daily users who dine out regularly and want to pull up to the table like everyone else. Anyone who spends extended time in their scooter and wants comfort-focused design.
EV Rider MiniRider Lite
4-Wheel Stability · Compact Footprint · 52" Turning Radius · Available in 3 Colors
The MiniRider Lite answers a real question: what if you need four-wheel stability but cannot manage a large, heavy scooter? Compact footprint, quick tool-free disassembly, and a 52-inch turning radius that handles narrow hallways and store aisles without drama. Up to 10 miles of range on the 12Ah battery. Supports 280 lbs. Available in Red, Pearl Green, and Blue. A practical, approachable entry point for patients who want the safety of four wheels without the size penalty of a full-size unit.
- 4-wheel stability in a compact, maneuverable frame
- Turning radius: 52" · Capacity: 280 lbs
- Range: up to 10 miles · 12Ah battery
- Tool-free disassembly · 3 color options
Best for: First-time scooter buyers who want 4-wheel stability in a compact package. Anyone who needs to maneuver in tight indoor spaces and cannot manage a heavier unit.
Golden Buzzaround XLSHD — 4-Wheel (GB124B)
325 lb Capacity · Rear Suspension with Adjustable Preload · 4" Ground Clearance · 18-Mile Extended Battery Option
The Buzzaround XLSHD bridges the gap between a standard travel scooter and a full-size model — and it does it with a feature most travel scooters skip entirely: rear suspension with manually adjustable preload. That means you can tune the firmness to your body weight and riding surface, not just accept whatever the factory set. Four inches of ground clearance helps navigate the thresholds and uneven surfaces that catch lighter travel scooters. The standard battery runs 9 miles; upgrade to the optional extended battery and you get 18. The heaviest section when disassembled is 40 lbs.
- Capacity: 325 lbs · Ground clearance: 4"
- Rear suspension with adjustable preload — tunable to your weight
- Range: 9 miles standard / 18 miles with extended battery option
- Turning radius: 44" · Speed: up to 4 mph
- 4-step disassembly · LED headlight · USB port
Best for: Larger patients (up to 325 lbs) who want genuine suspension comfort in a travel-capable package. Anyone who needs more ground clearance than standard travel scooters provide.
Golden Buzzaround Carry-On HD (B220)
400 lb Capacity · Folds Under 14" · Airline, Cruise & Train Approved · 22-Mile Range with Bonus Battery
The Buzzaround Carry-On HD does something almost nothing else in the 4-wheel travel category does: it delivers 400-lb weight capacity in a scooter that folds flat to under 14 inches high. That combination — high capacity plus genuine fold-flat portability — fills a gap in the market that has frustrated larger patients for years. Most folding travel scooters top out at 300 lbs. This one carries 400.
It comes with a free spare 6.5Ah battery included — giving you a combined range of up to 22 miles across both batteries. Brushless motor for smooth, quiet operation. Front and rear LED lighting. USB charging port. Interchangeable color shrouds so it looks the way you want. Airline, cruise, and train compliant batteries. If you are a larger patient who travels and has been told folding scooters are not for you, the Carry-On HD changes that.
- Capacity: 400 lbs — highest in our folding travel category
- Folds to under 14" high — airline, cruise, and train compliant
- Range: up to 22 miles (with included spare battery) · Speed: 4.29 mph
- Brushless motor · Front & rear LED lights · USB port
- Includes: front basket, rear basket, spare battery holder, cane holder, cup holder
- Interchangeable color shrouds · Turning radius: 44.5"
Best for: Larger patients (up to 400 lbs) who need a folding, travel-ready scooter. Cruise travelers and airline passengers who want high capacity without sacrificing portability.
Pride Victory 10 with EZ Turn — 4-Wheel
15.5-Mile Range · 5.25 mph · EZ Turn Technology · Tiller-Mounted Charger
Fifteen and a half miles of range. Five and a quarter mph. EZ Turn technology that gives this scooter a tighter turning radius than most in its size class. And a tiller-mounted charger that lets you plug in anywhere there is an outlet — a restaurant, a waiting room, a hotel lobby — without digging behind the seat. The Victory 10 is the scooter we point to most often when someone wants a capable, long-range four-wheel travel scooter without stepping up to a full-size model. It handles the full range of everyday community use with room to spare.
- Range: 15.5 miles · Speed: 5.25 mph · Capacity: 300 lbs
- EZ Turn Technology — tighter turning radius for its size class
- Tiller-mounted charger — charge anywhere with an outlet
- Turning radius: 54"
Best for: Active patients who want full-day range and real speed. Anyone who has been limited by short batteries on a previous scooter and wants that to stop.

Four hundred pounds of capacity, full front and rear suspension, EZ Turn technology for tighter maneuvering, and Pride's Charge360 magnetic charging system that snaps into place without alignment hassle. At 6 mph and 15.5 miles of range, it delivers genuine performance for daily use. Feather-touch disassembly means a caregiver or family member can break it down for vehicle transport without physical strain. For patients who need 400-lb capacity with the refinement and feature set of a premium scooter, this is Pride's answer.

MOJO Automatic Folding Travel Scooter
Remote-Control Auto-Fold · 4-Wheel · Airline-Approved · 13-Mile Range · Snowbird Favorite
The MOJO Auto folds automatically via remote control. Four-wheel stability, remote-triggered fold, airline-approved battery, 13-mile range. For snowbirds who fly between Southwest Florida and their northern home each season and want a four-wheel scooter they can actually travel with, the MOJO makes that workflow simple: press the remote, the scooter folds, you load it. Press it again at the other end, it unfolds, you ride. No disassembly ritual. No pieces to manage.
- Automatic fold/unfold via remote control
- 4-wheel stability · Airline-approved battery
- Range: 13 miles
Best for: Snowbirds and frequent flyers who want 4-wheel stability in a genuinely airline-ready folding package. Anyone tired of the disassembly ritual.

Heavy-Duty & All-Terrain Scooters — Maximum Performance, Maximum Freedom
When standard scooters are not enough — because the terrain is demanding, the capacity requirement is high, or you simply want the most capable machine available — the heavy-duty and all-terrain category delivers. Powerful motors, rugged tires, extended range, and top speeds that approach highway pace on a scooter. These do not typically disassemble for a car trunk; they go via vehicle lift or they go everywhere from home under their own power.
Pride Pursuit 2 Heavy Duty 4-Wheel Scooter
400 lb Capacity · 9.3 mph · 40-Mile Range · Pneumatic Tires · Memory Foam Seat · LED Lighting
The Pride Pursuit 2 delivers numbers that redefine what a scooter can be in everyday use. Nine point three miles per hour means this scooter keeps pace with slow traffic and handles large properties, community paths, and neighborhood streets with genuine authority. Forty miles of range means most patients will never see an empty battery indicator during normal daily use. Pneumatic tires absorb terrain that would rattle a travel scooter to pieces. The memory foam seat is built for all-day comfort, not an hour at a time. LED lighting, basket included, flip-back armrests, full suspension — the Pursuit 2 is equipped for every condition Southwest Florida can throw at it.
- Capacity: 400 lbs · Speed: 9.3 mph · Range: 40 miles
- Pneumatic tires — absorbs outdoor terrain
- Memory foam seat · Full suspension · Flip-back armrests
- Front and rear LED lighting · Basket included
- 25V 50Ah lithium ion battery · Rear-wheel drive
Best for: Active patients who need a heavy-duty scooter for daily outdoor use — neighborhoods, community paths, large properties. Anyone who wants 400-lb capacity with performance specs that match their ambition.
Pride Baja Wrangler 2 All-Terrain Scooter
450 lb Capacity · 11 mph · 24-Mile Range · Full CTS Front & Rear Suspension · Backup Sensor · The Top of Our Lineup

For larger patients (up to 450 lbs) who have been told that the best machines were not built for them — this one was. The CTS suspension on both ends means the Wrangler 2 absorbs the kind of terrain that rattles bones on standard scooters. Getting Your Scooter In and Out of the Car
This is the part most people do not think about until they are in a parking lot with a heavy scooter and a Honda Accord. Travel scooters disassemble to make car loading possible — but even the lightest pieces require repeated lifting every single day, and that adds up over time. If you are loading solo, every day, there is a ceiling to what is sustainable.
For patients with a power scooter who need it to move in and out of a vehicle without manual lifting, a Harmar vehicle lift eliminates the problem entirely. Drive the scooter onto the platform, press a button, it raises and locks onto your vehicle's hitch receiver. We sell, install, and service Harmar vehicle lifts across Southwest Florida. Call us with your vehicle make, model, and year and we will confirm compatibility. 866-218-0902.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — test drives are available at all five Southwest Florida locations. We strongly encourage it. A scooter that feels right in a parking lot may feel completely different in a store aisle, on a sloped driveway, or in a restaurant. Bring your caregivers. Ride what you are considering before you commit. Walk-ins welcome, or call ahead. 866-218-0902.
Medicare Part B may cover a power-operated vehicle when a physician documents a mobility-limiting condition that prevents activities of daily living in the home. The documentation requirements are specific. Call us before your physician appointment and we will tell you exactly what Medicare needs — and honestly whether the scooter you want is likely to qualify. 866-218-0902.
Notify your cruise line at booking, roll the scooter on board at embarkation, and it stays in your cabin or is stored by the ship depending on the vessel. The Buzzaround Carry-On HD, MOJO Auto, and Luggie are the models most commonly used by our cruise-traveling patients because of their compact folded profiles and travel-compliant batteries. Call us and we will walk you through the process for your specific sailing.
If you depend on your scooter for mobility and a storm is coming, you need a plan before the forecast — not during it. That means knowing how long your battery lasts, whether it charges via generator, and how you evacuate if needed. Call us in April or May. We will build a real plan for your specific equipment and situation.
Yes — any brand, any model, regardless of where it was purchased. In-store service at all five SW Florida locations. Home service calls for larger equipment that cannot be easily transported. Call 866-218-0902 to schedule.
Bring it in. We will look at it, ask you about how you use it and where it falls short, and tell you honestly whether a different model would serve you better — or whether what you have is already the right fit. We would rather spend 20 minutes confirming you have the right scooter than sell you a new one you do not need.
