Questions:
Will Medicare cover Hoyer lift or patient lift?
In the past few years Medicare's policy's have become very strict. The coverage guidelines are below, however documentation from your physician documenting the need is required in Physician patient notes. Also, a prescription is required prior to delivery (coverage is only for a manual hydraulic patient lift).
A Patient Lift is covered if:
If transfer between bed and a chair, wheelchair, or commode is required and, without the use of a lift, the patient would be bed-confined.
If coverage is provided for code E1035 or E1036, payment will be discontinued for any other mobility assistive equipment, including but not limited to: canes, crutches, walkers, rollabout chairs, transfer chairs, manual wheelchairs, power-operated vehicles, or power wheelchairs.
Patient lifts or Hoyer lifts are an important part of care, in home care setting. Patient lifts can make transferring the patient easier and safer for both the patient and the care giver. Patient lifts allow safe transfer from the bed, toilet or wheelchair, with rolling caters making moving the patient easy. We carry all the top manufactures of Hoyer and patient lifts such as Jorens, Invacare, Medline and more.
We have a complete selection of patient lifts, manual & battery-powered, as well as an extensive selection of patient lift slings. If there is a sling not shown, our expert sales staff can quickly locate your product, and provide a great price.
Manual Patient Lifts- Manual hydraulic lifts are operated by the caregiver because it is required to pump a handle to operate. With the hydraulic assists, the weight that the caregiver has to move is lessened. Manual hydraulic lifts are appropriate when cost is a significant factor, or if the patient lift is used for simple transfer of a patient from one room to another.
Power Patient Lifts- These type of patient lifts are powered by either a standard electrical outlet or powered re-chargeable battery. The lifting action is controlled through a hand control, reducing the physical exertion by the caregiver. Power patient lifts can allow the patient to use some functions independently. The models all have a manual backup system in case of power failure.
