Coloplast® Paste — Protective Ostomy Barrier Paste, Lower Alcohol, Soft & Flexible, 2 oz Tube with Key, SKU 2650
Lower alcohol than competing brands. Soft, flexible, and easy to handle. Includes a tube key. Coloplast® Paste is a protective ostomy barrier paste formulated to fill deeper skin cavities, folds, and irregular surfaces around the stoma — creating a tight, secure seal between the skin and the ostomy barrier. Unlike pectin-based pastes, Coloplast Paste uses a non-pectin formula that delivers a soft, pliable consistency that is easy to apply and mold, with lower alcohol content than most competing brands to minimize stinging. The paste provides a flexible, conforming seal that moves with the body and protects peristomal skin from stoma output exposure, reducing the risk of maceration and skin breakdown. Extends pouch wear time by improving the initial barrier seal. Includes a rolling tube key to extract every last drop. Made in Denmark. Latex-free. HCPCS A4405. FSA eligible. SKU 2650. 2 oz tube. Box of 12.

Features & Benefits
- Fills Deep Cavities & Folds — Tight Seal at the Barrier Interface — Skin around the stoma is rarely flat. Surgical scarring, skin folds, weight changes, and natural body contours create cavities and irregular surfaces that prevent the skin barrier from seating fully against the skin. Coloplast Paste fills these deeper cavities and folds before the barrier is applied — creating the even, continuous skin contact that allows the barrier adhesive to form a complete seal from the stoma opening outward. Without this fill, output finds the path of least resistance and tracks under the barrier through any gap, undermining the seal from the inside out.
- Non-Pectin Formula — Soft, Pliable Consistency — Pectin-based pastes have excellent hydrocolloid compatibility but can feel stiffer and require more pressure to apply from the tube and to smooth on the skin. Coloplast Paste's non-pectin formula has a softer, more pliable consistency that is easier to squeeze from the tube, easier to smooth with a finger, and more forgiving in deep or irregular cavities. For patients with limited hand strength or dexterity — or for stoma locations that are difficult to reach — the softer consistency is a practical handling advantage.
- Lower Alcohol Than Most Competing Brands — Coloplast Paste contains less alcohol than standard competing ostomy pastes, reducing the stinging sensation on application. This is particularly relevant for patients with sensitive peristomal skin, recently irritated skin, or those who change their barrier frequently. The lower alcohol content makes daily or every-other-day use more comfortable without the sting associated with higher-alcohol formulas.
- Flexible Seal — Moves With the Body — The soft, flexible formula maintains its integrity and seal as the body bends, sits, and moves. Stiffer paste formulations can crack or shift at flex points during activity, opening gaps in the seal. Coloplast Paste remains soft and conforming during wear, keeping the barrier-skin interface sealed through daily movement.
- Protects Peristomal Skin — Reduces Maceration Risk — In addition to filling surface irregularities, the paste creates a protective interface between peristomal skin and stoma output. Even small amounts of output exposure to peristomal skin cause enzymatic irritation and maceration over time. The paste barrier minimizes this exposure at the most vulnerable point — directly around the stoma opening where output contact is most likely.
- Tube Key Included — Easy Application, Zero Waste — The rolling tube key allows patients with weaker hands or limited grip strength to apply consistent, controlled pressure to the tube without squeezing. It also rolls the tube from the bottom as it empties, ensuring the full tube contents are used with no paste left behind. For a product used at every barrier change, the tube key provides both ergonomic and economic value.
Coloplast Paste 2650 vs. Coloplast Brava Paste 12050 — What Is the Difference?
| Feature | Coloplast® Paste (2650) | Coloplast Brava® Paste with Pectin (12050) |
|---|---|---|
| Brand Line | Coloplast® — classic product line | Brava® — Coloplast's ostomy accessory line |
| Pectin | No pectin | Yes — pectin-based hydrocolloid |
| Consistency | Softer, more pliable — easier to handle | Slightly firmer — superior moisture resistance |
| Alcohol | Lower alcohol — less sting | Low alcohol — less sting |
| Durability | Reliable seal — soft and flexible during wear | Market-leading durability and moisture resistance |
| HCPCS Code | A4405 | A4406 |
| Tube Key | Yes — included | Yes — included |
| Best For | Patients who prefer softer consistency · Deep cavities · Limited hand strength · Cost-conscious choice | Patients who prioritize maximum durability and moisture resistance · High-output stomas |
Bottom line: Both are quality Coloplast pastes that fill peristomal skin irregularities effectively. The 2650 is softer and easier to handle — a good choice for deep cavities, patients with hand dexterity limitations, or those who prefer a more pliable paste. The 12050 (Brava with Pectin) offers superior moisture resistance and durability for high-output stomas or patients who need the longest possible wear time between changes. Note the different HCPCS codes — A4405 for 2650, A4406 for 12050 — which may affect insurance reimbursement.
How to Use Coloplast® Paste
- Clean and dry peristomal skin thoroughly before application.
- Use the tube key to roll the tube from the bottom, pushing paste toward the opening for controlled dispensing.
- Apply the paste directly from the tube onto skin folds, creases, cavities, or uneven areas around the stoma — OR apply a ring of paste around the inner edge of the skin barrier on the adhesive side.
- Do not spread paste across the entire barrier adhesive surface — apply specifically to gap areas only.
- If needed, smooth the paste with a moistened finger to level it with the surrounding skin.
- Apply the skin barrier and press firmly from the stoma outward with palm pressure for 30–60 seconds.
- After use, wipe the tube tip clean with a tissue and recap tightly to prevent moisture contact.
Removal: Paste residue can be removed with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Any clean residue remaining on the skin does not need to be fully removed before the next barrier application.
