Important: The ActiveLife Stoma Cap is designed for colostomy patients only — specifically those who irrigate or experience natural periods of stomal inactivity. It is not appropriate for ileostomy patients (liquid, continuous output requires a drainable pouch at all times) or urostomy patients (continuous urine output requires a dedicated urostomy pouch). Stoma caps provide minimal capacity and are not a substitute for a standard pouching system during active output periods.
Features & Benefits
- Designed for Colostomy Irrigation Patients — Colostomy irrigation is a technique in which patients use water instillation to stimulate a controlled, predictable bowel movement — typically once every 24 to 48 hours. Between irrigation sessions, the stoma is largely inactive. The stoma cap is built for this window: providing just enough coverage to manage incidental gas and any minor mucus output without the bulk or visibility of a full colostomy pouch. For patients who have mastered irrigation, the stoma cap is the product that unlocks full discretion during daily activities
- Stomahesive® Integrated Skin Barrier — The integrated skin barrier uses ConvaTec's Stomahesive® hydrocolloid formula — the same trusted barrier technology used across the full ActiveLife pouch line. Stomahesive adheres securely to peristomal skin, is gentle and non-sensitizing for ongoing daily use, and provides reliable protection during stomal inactivity periods
- Charcoal Filter — Vents Gas, Eliminates Odor — The charcoal filter allows gas produced by the colon to vent slowly and quietly through the cap without ballooning or audible noise, while the activated charcoal neutralizes odor as gas passes through. This makes the stoma cap appropriate for all-day wear — at work, in social settings, during exercise, and at rest — without concerns about visible gas distension or odor
- 1-Sided Comfort Panel — The soft comfort panel on the outer face of the cap creates a smooth, quiet surface against clothing — reducing rustling noise during movement and minimizing any visible outline under garments
- Cut-to-Fit Opening — 3/4" to 2" — The stoma opening is cut by the patient or caregiver to match the stoma's individual size and shape. The cut-to-fit range accommodates stoma sizes from 19 mm (3/4 inch) to 50 mm (2 inches), covering the full range of adult colostomy stoma sizes and shapes — round, oval, or irregular
- No Tape Collar — Low Profile — The no-collar design keeps the stoma cap compact. Tape collars add width to the barrier perimeter and can create a visible edge or outline under clothing — removing the collar keeps the cap's overall footprint minimal and discreet
- Opaque — Complete Visual Discretion — The fully opaque material completely conceals the stoma and any minor cap contents from view — from the patient's own line of sight and from others — supporting confidence and body image throughout the day
- Lightweight & Flexible — The one-piece cap is lightweight and flexible, conforming to body contours during movement and appropriate for physical activity, swimming, and intimacy during periods of stomal inactivity
Who Is the Stoma Cap For?
Appropriate for:
- Colostomy patients who perform regular irrigation and experience predictable stomal inactivity between sessions
- Colostomy patients during natural periods of reduced or absent stoma output
- Situational use during occasions where minimal coverage is preferred — intimacy, swimming, or active sports
Not appropriate for:
- Ileostomy patients — output is liquid and continuous; a drainable pouch is always required
- Urostomy patients — urine flow is continuous; a urostomy pouch is always required
- Colostomy patients with unpredictable or frequent output who have not established a reliable irrigation routine
Sizing & Application
- Measure your stoma at its widest point using a stoma sizing guide
- Cut the skin barrier opening to match your stoma — cut 1/8 inch larger than the stoma measurement for a comfortable fit that protects peristomal skin without pressing against the stoma
- Remove the backing paper from the Stomahesive barrier
- Center the opening over the stoma and press firmly from the stoma outward, eliminating air pockets and ensuring full skin contact
- Hold with warm palm pressure for 30–60 seconds to activate the barrier adhesion
- Replace when the barrier begins to lift, when the filter is saturated, or when stoma activity is expected
