Description

ConvaTec Aquacel Ag Non-Adhesive Foam Dressing — Hydrofiber + Silver, Sensitive Skin Safe, 5 Sizes

All the clinical power of Aquacel Ag Foam — without the adhesive border. ConvaTec Aquacel Ag Non-Adhesive Foam Dressing delivers the same patented four-layer Hydrofiber + ionic silver technology as the adhesive version, in a border-free format designed for patients with adhesive sensitivity, fragile or damaged periwound skin, or wounds managed under compression therapy where a separate retention system is already in place. The Aquacel Ag Hydrofiber interface gels on contact with wound exudate — locking fluid and bacteria within the fiber matrix through vertical wicking, maintaining a moist wound environment, and delivering continuous ionic silver antimicrobial activity directly at the wound surface. The soft polyurethane foam pad absorbs and holds excess fluid for patient comfort, while the breathable waterproof film backing protects against bacterial and viral contamination from outside. Secured with a secondary dressing, bandage, or compression wrap of the clinician's choice.

✔ No Adhesive Border — Ideal for Adhesive-Sensitive & Fragile Periwound Skin    ✔ Same Aquacel Ag Hydrofiber Technology — Gels on Contact, Locks Bacteria & Exudate    ✔ Vertical Wicking — Prevents Lateral Spread & Maceration    ✔ Ionic Silver — Broad-Spectrum Antimicrobial Including Antibiotic-Resistant Organisms    ✔ Compression Compatible — Works Under Wraps, Bandages & Retention Systems

Indicated For — Wound Types

  • Pressure ulcers — all stages, particularly where adhesive borders are contraindicated
  • Venous leg ulcers managed under compression therapy — primary dressing under wraps
  • Arterial and neuropathic (diabetic) foot ulcers
  • Partial and full thickness acute and chronic wounds with low to moderate exudate
  • Infected or at-risk wounds in patients with adhesive sensitivity or allergic contact dermatitis
  • Wounds with fragile, damaged, or macerated periwound skin where adhesive application would cause additional trauma
  • Wounds requiring simultaneous antimicrobial activity, exudate management, and compression compatibility
  • Surgical wounds, donor sites, and superficial partial thickness burns in adhesive-sensitive patients
  • Any wound where a secondary retention system is already in place or preferred by the clinician

Note: A secondary dressing is required to secure the non-adhesive foam in place. Use with caution in patients with known sensitivity to silver or silver compounds. Consult a healthcare professional for infected wounds and follow facility antimicrobial stewardship protocols.

How It Works — Same Aquacel Ag Technology, Border-Free

The non-adhesive version of Aquacel Ag Foam uses the identical three-layer wound-contact system as the adhesive version — the difference is the absence of a silicone adhesive border. This makes it the clinical choice when the adhesive border itself is the limiting factor: patients with contact allergies to silicone adhesives, compromised periwound skin that cannot tolerate repeated adhesive application and removal, or wounds managed under compression systems where the secondary retention is already provided by the wrap. The Hydrofiber interface functions identically — gelling on contact with exudate, wicking vertically into the foam pad, and delivering ionic silver antimicrobial activity at the wound surface throughout wear. The foam pad absorbs and holds excess fluid while the breathable film backing maintains the bacterial and viral barrier. With the appropriate secondary dressing or compression system in place, the clinical outcome is equivalent to the adhesive version — without the adhesive-related complications.

  • Hydrofiber interface gels on contact — immobilizes bacteria within the fiber matrix, prevents spread back to wound
  • Vertical wicking draws exudate upward into foam pad — prevents lateral spread and periwound maceration
  • Ionic silver throughout Hydrofiber layer — antimicrobial action at the wound surface where pathogens concentrate
  • Kills a broad spectrum of microorganisms including tested antibiotic-resistant organisms in vitro
  • Foam pad absorbs and holds excess fluid — patient comfort, no swell against wound tissue
  • Waterproof breathable film backing — bacterial and viral barrier, evaporates excess moisture
  • No adhesive border — eliminates adhesive trauma risk on fragile or sensitive periwound skin
  • Compression compatible — maintains performance and integrity under compression wraps
  • Can be cut to fit irregular wound shapes without compromising dressing integrity
  • Sterile and latex-free — appropriate for all clinical and home wound care settings

Adhesive vs. Non-Adhesive — Which Is Right?

Choose Adhesive (420619 etc.) When: Choose Non-Adhesive (420639 etc.) When:
Periwound skin is intact and healthy Patient has known adhesive sensitivity or contact allergy
No secondary retention system in place Wound is managed under compression wraps or bandages
Simplest possible one-step application preferred Periwound skin is fragile, macerated, or damaged
Shower-safe self-contained dressing needed Repeated adhesive removal has caused or risks epidermal stripping
Heel or sacral shaped coverage needed Larger wound sizes needed (up to 8" x 8" available)

Choosing the Right Size

  • 420639 — 2" x 2" (5cm x 5cm) — 10/box — Smallest size — ideal for compact wounds, skin tears, small pressure injuries, and toe or finger wounds in adhesive-sensitive patients
  • 420642 — 4" x 4" (10cm x 10cm) — 10/box — Standard size — most widely used for general pressure ulcer, venous ulcer, and wound management under compression
  • 420645 — 6" x 6" (15cm x 15cm) — 10/box — Medium-large square — broader coverage for medium-to-large wounds and pressure injuries requiring more pad surface area
  • 420646 — 8" x 8" (20cm x 20cm) — 5/box — Largest square — heavily exuding wounds, large pressure injuries, broad surgical sites, and wounds requiring maximum non-adhesive coverage
  • 420806 — 6" x 8" (15cm x 20cm) — 5/box — Rectangular format — elongated wounds on the lower leg, thigh, or back, and wounds where a rectangular pad better matches the wound shape than a square

Tip: The non-adhesive version is available in larger sizes than the adhesive version — making it the right choice for wounds that exceed the 7" x 7" maximum of the bordered format. All sizes can be cut to fit without compromising dressing integrity.
