Clinical FAQs
What is the Invisiclose closure and how does it work?
Invisiclose is ConvaTec's integrated tail closure system built directly into the bottom of the pouch. Unlike traditional drainable pouches that require a separate plastic clamp or Velcro closure strip, the Invisiclose tail folds and locks onto itself using an integrated mechanism — no additional hardware is needed. This simplifies emptying and re-closing, reduces the number of accessories to manage, and eliminates the risk of losing or forgetting a clamp.
What SUR-FIT Natura skin barriers are these pouches compatible with?
These pouches are compatible with all SUR-FIT Natura skin barriers — standard wear, extended wear, cut-to-fit, and pre-cut — in the matching flange size. Match the flange diameter on the barrier to the flange size listed for each SKU. They are not compatible with SUR-FIT AutoLock barriers, which use a different coupling mechanism.
How do I select the correct SKU?
Two measurements determine your SKU: your flange size (which must match your skin barrier) and your stoma opening size. Your stoma opening should be within 1/8" of your stoma's widest diameter. If your stoma is currently changing size post-operatively, measure at each change and select accordingly. Once stable, reorder by the same SKU.
Can the pouch be changed without removing the skin barrier?
Yes. The SUR-FIT Natura two-piece system allows independent pouch removal and replacement while the skin barrier remains on the skin. This is one of the primary clinical advantages of a two-piece system — the barrier can stay in place for its full wear time while the pouch is emptied or swapped as needed, reducing adhesive trauma and peristomal skin disruption from frequent barrier changes.
What is HCPCS code A5093 and does insurance cover this product?
A5093 is the HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System) code for a drainable ostomy pouch. Medicare Part B, Medicaid, and most private insurers use HCPCS codes to determine coverage eligibility for ostomy supplies. Patients with an ostomate diagnosis and a valid prescription are often entitled to a monthly supply allowance. Contact your insurer or our team for assistance with coverage verification.
What is the difference between this pouch and a closed-end pouch?
A drainable pouch has an open bottom that can be emptied and re-sealed, making it suitable for ileostomy or high-output colostomy where frequent emptying is necessary. A closed-end pouch is sealed at the bottom and is disposed of after each use — it is better suited for colostomy patients with predictable, formed output who prefer a thinner, more discreet profile. The Invisiclose closure on this pouch makes draining nearly as easy as disposal.
Is this pouch suitable for ileostomy, colostomy, and urostomy?
This drainable pouch with tail closure is designed for ileostomy and colostomy use. It is not a urostomy pouch — urostomy pouches have a drain valve at the bottom for liquid urine output and are a separate product category. If you need a urostomy pouch for SUR-FIT Natura barriers, contact us for the correct SKU.
