Description

ConvaTec SUR-FIT Natura Durahesive Convex-IT Pre-Cut Skin Barrier — Recessed & Flush Stomas | SKU 413177–413188

A two-piece convex ostomy skin barrier with built-in CONVEX-IT technology — designed specifically for recessed, retracted, or flush stomas where a flat barrier cannot create a reliable seal. Durahesive adhesive swells on contact with stoma output to create a turtlenecking seal that tightens around the stoma base, stopping output from migrating under the barrier. Ideal for patients with liquid or high-output stomas (ileostomy, urostomy, or high-output colostomy). Audible click coupling ring confirms secure pouch connection. White fabric tape collar adds flexibility and skin-level security. Compatible with all SUR-FIT Natura two-piece pouches. Available in 10 pre-cut sizes across two flange diameters. Latex free. FSA eligible. Sold in packs of 10.

Key Features

  • CONVEX-IT technology — built-in convexity applies gentle inward pressure to evert and support recessed, flush, or retracted stomas
  • Durahesive adhesive — swells on contact with liquid output to form a turtlenecking seal around the stoma base
  • Turtlenecking seal — barrier material contracts inward as it absorbs output, closing gaps between barrier and stoma
  • Pre-cut stoma openings — no trimming required; select the correct size before applying
  • Audible click coupling ring — confirms secure connection to any SUR-FIT Natura pouch
  • White fabric tape collar — flexible and skin-friendly at the barrier edge
  • Maintains adhesion during showering, bathing, and swimming
  • Ideal for liquid to semi-liquid stoma output
  • 4.5" x 4.5" barrier (45mm flange) | 5" x 5" barrier (57mm flange)
  • Color: White | Latex free | FSA eligible
  • Sold in packs of 10

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between this Durahesive Convex barrier and the flat Stomahesive barrier?

These are two different barriers for two different stoma types — selecting the wrong one will cause leakage. The flat Stomahesive barrier (SKU 125267–125277) is designed for stomas that protrude normally above the skin surface. The Durahesive Convex barrier (this product) is designed for recessed, flush, or retracted stomas — stomas that sit at or below skin level and cannot be effectively sealed with a flat barrier. The CONVEX-IT technology applies gentle inward pressure from the barrier to push the peristomal skin slightly inward, which causes the stoma to evert (extend) enough to make proper contact with the barrier. Never use a convex barrier unless you or your stoma care nurse has confirmed your stoma requires convexity — incorrect convex use can cause tissue damage.

What is Durahesive and how is it different from Stomahesive?

Both are ConvaTec's proprietary hydrocolloid adhesive formulas, but they are formulated differently. Stomahesive is a standard hydrocolloid designed for semi-formed to formed stoma output (colostomy). Durahesive is specifically formulated for liquid to semi-liquid output — it absorbs output and swells to create the turtlenecking seal that Stomahesive does not produce. Durahesive also provides longer wear time in high-output liquid environments. For ileostomy and urostomy patients, Durahesive is generally the preferred barrier formula.

What does "turtlenecking" mean?

Turtlenecking is a unique property of Durahesive adhesive. When stoma output contacts the inner edge of the barrier opening, the hydrocolloid material absorbs the liquid and swells inward — contracting toward the stoma rather than eroding outward. This creates a progressive seal that tightens around the stoma base as the barrier wears, helping prevent output from migrating under the barrier and reaching the peristomal skin.

Who needs a convex barrier?

Convex barriers are recommended for patients whose stoma is recessed (sits below skin level), flush (sits even with the skin), or retracted (pulled inward). This is most commonly seen in patients with a soft or heavy abdomen, scar tissue around the stoma, or stomas that were surgically created with insufficient protrusion. Convex barriers are also used for patients with peristomal skin folds or creases that prevent a flat barrier from sealing properly. Always have your stoma care nurse confirm you need convex before switching — using convex on a normally protruding stoma is unnecessary and can cause pressure injury.

Is this barrier compatible with SUR-FIT Natura pouches?

Yes — this barrier is compatible with all ConvaTec SUR-FIT Natura two-piece drainable, closed, and urostomy pouches with the matching flange size (45mm or 57mm). It uses the same audible click coupling ring system as the flat SUR-FIT Natura barrier.
