How Multidex Works — Maltodextrin NF Technology

Unlike zinc-based or hydrogel wound dressings, Multidex uses Maltodextrin NF — a hydrophilic polysaccharide that rapidly fills the wound site, mixes with wound exudate, and forms a protective gel coating that maintains an ideal moisture balance. This coating does three critical things simultaneously: it creates the moist environment needed for granulation tissue growth and epithelial proliferation, it softens and loosens necrotic tissue to facilitate debridement, and it controls wound odor by decreasing purulent exudate. Clinically proven effective even on infected wounds — where many other wound dressings cannot be used.

  • Maltodextrin NF rapidly fills wound irregularities — including tunneling and undermining
  • Mixes with exudate to form a protective coating that prevents wound dehydration
  • Clinically proven to support granulation tissue growth and epithelial proliferation
  • Softens necrotic tissue — facilitates autolytic debridement without sharp debridement
  • Controls odor and decreases the amount of purulent exudate in infected wounds
  • Safe for use on infected wounds — effective where other gels cannot be applied
  • Safe for diabetic wounds — non-toxic and not absorbed into the patient's system
  • Penetrates all wound irregularities — ideal for cavity wounds, tunneling, and undermining

Multidex Gel vs. Multidex Powder — Which Is Right?

Both Multidex Gel and Multidex Powder use the same Maltodextrin NF active ingredient — the choice depends entirely on how much the wound is draining.

  • Multidex Gel (this product) — Formulated for dry or minimally draining wounds. The gel adds and maintains moisture at the wound site. Apply 1/4" thick for shallow wounds; fill to the surface for deep or cavity wounds
  • Multidex Powder — Formulated for moist to heavily draining wounds. The powder absorbs excess exudate while delivering the same maltodextrin nutrient coating. Available in 6g, 12g, 25g, and 45g sizes

How to Apply

  • Debride necrotic tissue as appropriate before applying — follow physician direction
  • Irrigate the wound liberally with sterile 0.9% normal saline or balanced salts solution
  • For shallow wounds: apply 1/4" thick layer over the entire wound surface
  • For deep, cavity, or tunneling wounds: fill the wound site to the surface — take care to fill all undermined areas
  • Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing (Covaderm Plus, MultiPad, Sofsorb, or Polyderm Plus)
  • Change once daily for minimally to moderately draining wounds
  • Change twice daily for heavily exuding wounds
  • Remove secondary dressing first; if Multidex adheres, soak with saline for several minutes before removal
