How Multidex Powder Works

Multidex Powder is formulated specifically for wounds with moderate to heavy drainage — where gel would be diluted too quickly by excess exudate. When applied to a draining wound, the Maltodextrin NF powder rapidly absorbs the exudate and simultaneously mixes with it to form a protective gel-like coating that maintains ideal moisture balance, delivers topical nutrients to the wound bed, and shields the tissue from dehydration and contamination. With 1% ascorbic acid, Multidex brings natural antioxidant support to the wound environment as it heals.

  • Maltodextrin NF rapidly absorbs excess exudate and fills the wound site completely
  • Mixes with wound fluid to form a protective coating — maintains ideal moisture balance
  • Clinically proven to promote granulation tissue growth and epithelial proliferation
  • Softens necrotic tissue — supports autolytic debridement without sharp debridement
  • Controls wound odor and decreases the amount of purulent exudate
  • Penetrates all wound irregularities — fills tunneling and undermining completely
  • Effective even on infected hard-to-heal wounds — where many dressings cannot be used
  • Safe for diabetic wounds — non-toxic and not absorbed into the patient's system
  • 1% ascorbic acid adds antioxidant support to the wound healing environment

Multidex Powder vs. Multidex Gel — Which Is Right?

Both Multidex Powder and Multidex Gel use the same Maltodextrin NF active ingredient. The difference is entirely about drainage level.

  • Multidex Powder (this product) — For moist to heavily draining wounds. The powder absorbs excess exudate while forming the same protective coating. Change once daily for moderate drainage; twice daily for heavy drainage
  • Multidex Gel (3 oz. tube, item 46-712) — For dry or minimally draining wounds. The gel adds moisture and maintains the wound environment. Apply 1/4" thick for shallow wounds; fill to surface for deep wounds

How to Apply

  • Debride necrotic tissue as appropriate before applying — follow physician direction
  • Irrigate the wound liberally with sterile 0.9% normal saline or balanced salts solution
  • Apply Multidex Powder directly into the wound — fill cavity and tunneling wounds to the surface
  • For shallow wounds: apply a generous layer over the entire wound surface
  • Cover with an appropriate secondary dressing (Covaderm Plus, MultiPad, Sofsorb, or Polyderm Plus)
  • Change once daily for minimally to moderately draining wounds
  • Change twice daily for heavily exuding wounds
  • If secondary dressing adheres, soak with saline for several minutes before removal
