Description

The Drive Medical Aluminum Rehab Shower Commode (NRS185006) is the self-propelled version of Drive's standard aluminum rehab commode — the same rust-resistant aluminum frame, 18" padded seat, and 275 lb capacity as the attendant caster model, but with 24" rear wheels and 5" front locking casters in place of four small casters. The 24" rear wheels with hand rims allow the user to propel and steer independently between bedroom and bathroom, over the toilet, and into a roll-in shower — without waiting for a caregiver to push the chair.

For users who have sufficient upper body strength and want to manage their own bathroom routine, this is a meaningful independence upgrade over the attendant version. The chair still functions as a shower chair, rolls over a standard toilet, and works as a bedside commode with the included bucket. Padded flip-back armrests, swing-away footrests with height and angle adjustment, and tool-free seat height adjustment are all the same as the caster model. Limited lifetime warranty.

If the user cannot self-propel, the attendant caster version (NRS185007) is the more practical choice. For users over 275 lbs, the bariatric version (NRS185008) supports up to 500 lbs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between this model and the NRS185007?
The NRS185007 has four 5" locking casters and is attendant-propelled — a caregiver pushes the chair. This model (NRS185006) has 24" rear wheels with hand rims and 5" front casters — the user can propel and steer themselves. If the user cannot self-propel, the NRS185007 is the right choice. If independence matters and the user has upper body strength, this is the better option.

Can it still be used in an attendant-propelled mode?
Yes — a caregiver can push the chair from behind using the push handles, the same way a standard manual wheelchair is pushed. Self-propel wheels don't prevent attendant use, they just add the option for user-independence.

Does it require a roll-in shower?
Yes — to roll directly from the bedroom into the shower without a transfer, you need a barrier-free or roll-in shower with no threshold. The chair works as a shower seat in a step-in shower if the user transfers in separately, but the self-propel advantage is most useful with a roll-in setup.

Will it roll over my toilet?
Yes — seat height adjusts 4" tool-free, covering most standard and comfort-height toilets. The overall width with 24" wheels is wider than the caster version — measure your toilet clearance and bathroom doorway width before ordering.

What is the weight limit?
275 lbs. For users at or near this limit, the bariatric NRS185008 at 500 lbs with a 22" seat is the safer choice.

What is the warranty?
Limited lifetime warranty from Drive Medical.
