The Encore Body Shield is a flexible stretchable disc placed over the penis and positioned at the base before using a vacuum erection device (VED) pump. Its primary purpose is protective: the pump's vacuum creates negative pressure throughout the entire cylinder, and without a barrier at the body surface, the suction can draw pubic hair, scrotal tissue, and surrounding skin into the open end of the vacuum tube, causing discomfort, pinching, and interference with the pumping process. The Body Shield creates a soft, flexible perimeter at the base of the penis that acts as a buffer between the body surface and the pump tube — shielding tissue and hair while maintaining the tube's seal. As a secondary benefit, the Body Shield helps establish and maintain a more consistent seal between the pump tube and the body surface, supporting more efficient vacuum buildup during pumping. After the erection is achieved and the vacuum is released, the Body Shield is flexible enough to be stretched over the tension ring during the ring transfer process. How is the Body Shield applied and when during the VED therapy sequence does it go on?

The Body Shield is applied at the beginning of the VED therapy session, before the vacuum cylinder is positioned. Pull the Body Shield through from the center hole and position it at the base of the penis, against the body surface, so it forms a protective ring around the base. Once in position, slide the vacuum cylinder over the penis so that the open end of the cylinder rests against or near the Body Shield, with the Shield acting as a buffer between the cylinder's edge and the surrounding body tissue. Proceed with pumping normally. The Shield remains in place throughout the pumping and erection achievement process. When the session is complete and the tension ring has been applied, the Body Shield can be stretched over the tension ring as part of the transfer step, or removed — follow your physician's or device manufacturer's guidance for the specific sequence appropriate to your device and therapy protocol. Wash the Body Shield after each use per standard cleaning guidance for latex personal care devices — mild soap and warm water, allow to air dry completely before storage.

Why does vacuum suction pull surrounding tissue into the tube, and is this a safety concern?

A vacuum erection device creates negative pressure — air is removed from the cylinder, creating a lower pressure environment inside the tube compared to outside. This pressure differential draws blood into the penile tissue to produce an erection, but it also exerts suction on anything at the open end of the cylinder, including skin, pubic hair, and scrotal tissue. The Body Shield contains latex — what should I know if I have or suspect a latex sensitivity?

The Encore Body Shield is made from natural rubber, which contains latex proteins. For users with a confirmed or suspected latex allergy, this product is not appropriate. Latex allergy ranges from mild contact dermatitis (local skin redness, itching, or rash) to severe systemic reactions in sensitized individuals. Because the Body Shield is a personal-contact product used in a sensitive area, the risk of localized latex exposure is significant.
