The Fisher & Paykel HC385 is the OEM replacement humidifier water chamber for the Fisher & Paykel SleepStyle 200, 230, 240, and 250 series CPAP systems. It directly replaces the discontinued HC345 chamber with an updated, sleeker design at the same 400ml capacity. The chamber connects to the machine's humidifier base via two ports — one on the side and one on the top — for a secure, sealed fit. With proper care and the use of distilled water, the HC385 typically lasts 3–6 months before replacement is needed. Dishwasher safe on the top rack for convenient weekly cleaning. No prescription required. Insurance code A7046. By Fisher & Paykel Healthcare. Available at Medical Department Store — call 1-866-218-0902 or visit any of our six Southwest Florida locations.

Care & Maintenance

  • Use distilled water only — tap water contains minerals (calcium, magnesium, lime) that deposit on the chamber walls and heating element over time, reducing humidification performance and shortening the chamber's life; in Southwest Florida, where tap water mineral content is particularly high, using tap water in a CPAP humidifier chamber can cause visible mineral buildup within weeks; distilled water eliminates this entirely and is available inexpensively at any grocery store
  • Empty the chamber daily — standing water in the chamber overnight allows bacteria to develop; empty, rinse, and allow the chamber to air dry after each night's use, or refill with fresh distilled water immediately before your next use
  • Clean weekly — wash the chamber with warm water and mild dish soap, or place it on the top rack of a dishwasher; for disinfection, soak in a solution of one part white vinegar to four parts water for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry before use
  • Replace every 3–6 months — even with consistent care, the HC385 should be replaced every 3–6 months; over time, the plastic can become cloudy, develop mineral deposits that cleaning doesn't remove, or develop micro-scratches that harbor bacteria; regular replacement is part of standard CPAP maintenance
  • Do not use hot water or harsh cleaning agents — high heat can warp the plastic; harsh chemicals or bleach can damage the chamber material and leave residue that is then inhaled during therapy

FAQs

Does the HC385 include the water chamber seal?

No — the HC385 is the water chamber tub only. The silicone seal that sits on top of the humidifier chamber and connects to the machine's lid is a separate component and is not included with this purchase. If your seal is worn or damaged, it should be replaced separately. Call us at 1-866-218-0902 and we can confirm the correct seal for your machine model.

Can I use tap water if I run it through a filter?

Distilled water is the only recommended option. Filtered tap water still contains dissolved minerals that cause buildup over time — filtration removes particulates and some contaminants but does not remove the dissolved minerals responsible for mineral deposits in humidifier chambers. Distilled water has had virtually all dissolved solids removed through the distillation process and is safe for CPAP humidifier use.

How do I know when the HC385 needs to be replaced?

Replace when the chamber becomes visibly cloudy or discolored and doesn't clear with cleaning, when mineral deposits are visible on the chamber walls or base and cannot be removed with vinegar cleaning, when the plastic shows cracking or damage, or when it has been in use for 6 months — whichever comes first. A degraded chamber can harbor bacteria even after cleaning and reduces humidification efficiency.

Is the HC385 covered by insurance?

The HC385 is classified under insurance code A7046. Medicare and most insurance plans cover CPAP supplies including humidifier chambers on a scheduled replacement basis with a valid CPAP prescription on file. Coverage varies by plan. Call us at 1-866-218-0902 before purchasing if you intend to use insurance benefits — our team can help confirm what your plan covers and at what frequency.
