Hodge Pessary With or Without Support — Malleable, 10 Sizes, First & Second-Degree Prolapse, Cystocele & Retro Displacement
Manually shapeable. Individually fitted. The pessary that bends to the patient. The Hodge Pessary is a unique pessary design featuring internal wires that allow the clinician to manually bend and contour the pessary to the individual patient's anatomy — making it one of the most customizable fits in the pessary lineup. Available with or without a supporting membrane, it is primarily used for first and mild second-degree uterine prolapse and may also relieve cystocele. It is also indicated for retro displacement of the uterus and incompetent cervix — indications not shared by most other pessary types. The Hodge is usually prescribed for reproductive-aged women who prefer conservative therapy, and its malleable construction makes it particularly adaptable to the anatomical variation common in younger patients. Available in 10 sizes. Because of its wire construction, the Hodge pessary must be removed prior to x-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs. Rx required.

Indicated For — Conditions Treated
- First-degree uterine prolapse — primary indication; the Hodge's malleable design allows precise fit for early-stage prolapse with individualized anatomical contouring
- Mild second-degree uterine prolapse — effective for moderate early prolapse presentations where conservative management is the patient's preference
- Cystocele — anterior vaginal wall prolapse (bladder herniation); With Support version adds membrane reinforcement for concurrent cystocele
- Retro displacement of the uterus — a unique indication among pessary types; the Hodge is one of the few pessary designs indicated for uterine retro displacement, providing anterior support to reposition a posteriorly displaced uterus
- Incompetent cervix — used to provide cervical support during pregnancy; clinicians should follow obstetric protocol for this indication
- Reproductive-aged women preferring conservative therapy — the Hodge is specifically noted for this patient population, particularly where the woman wishes to avoid surgery and requires a more customized fit than a standard ring can provide
- With Support version — supporting membrane adds structural reinforcement particularly beneficial for concurrent cystocele
- Without Support version — open profile for patients where the primary need is uterine repositioning or prolapse support without membrane
Note: Pessary fitting and ongoing management should be performed or supervised by a qualified healthcare professional. The Hodge pessary must be removed prior to x-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs due to its wire construction. A Pessary Sizing Chart is available for clinical reference. This product is Rx only — a valid prescription or professional license is required prior to shipment.
How It Works — Malleable Design & With Support vs. Without Support
The Hodge Pessary's defining feature is its internal wire construction, which allows the clinician to manually bend and shape the pessary before or during fitting to better conform to the individual patient's vaginal anatomy. This malleability sets the Hodge apart from every other pessary in the EvaCare lineup — where all other pessary types must be selected in a size that closely matches the anatomy, the Hodge can be adjusted to fit. This makes it particularly valuable for patients with anatomical variation — including reproductive-aged women whose pelvic anatomy may differ significantly from older post-menopausal patients — and for presentations like retro displacement and incompetent cervix where precise positional support of the uterus or cervix is the clinical goal rather than simple prolapse retention.
The Hodge is held in place by the pelvic floor musculature rather than by a rim-against-wall or suction mechanism — making adequate pelvic floor tone an important factor in patient selection. The With Support version adds a membrane across the pessary interior for patients with concurrent cystocele who need anterior structural reinforcement in addition to uterine support. The Without Support version provides the open profile more suited to patients whose primary need is uterine repositioning or early prolapse management. An important clinical point: because of the internal wire construction, the Hodge pessary must be removed before x-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs — patients should be counseled on this requirement at the time of fitting.
| Version | Best For |
|---|---|
| Hodge With Support | First or second-degree prolapse with concurrent cystocele; patients who benefit from malleable fit plus membrane reinforcement for anterior compartment support |
| Hodge Without Support | Uterine prolapse, retro displacement, or incompetent cervix without significant cystocele; patients where the open malleable profile is preferred for conservative management |
- Internally shapeable wire construction — clinician can manually contour the pessary to individual patient anatomy before or during fitting
- Unique indication for retro displacement of the uterus — one of the few pessary types suitable for this presentation
- Also indicated for incompetent cervix — follow obstetric protocol for this application
- Preferred for reproductive-aged women choosing conservative therapy — anatomical adaptability makes it suitable for younger patient populations
- Held in place by pelvic floor musculature — adequate introital tone is important for correct retention
- Must be removed before x-rays, ultrasounds, and MRIs — counsel patients at time of fitting
- Disinfectable — supports ongoing reuse under clinical supervision
- 10 sizes ensure a wide range of fitting options alongside the malleable adjustment capability
Size Guide — Hodge Pessary, 10 Sizes
The Hodge Pessary is available in 10 sizes to accommodate a wide range of patient anatomies. Because the pessary is also manually shapeable, size selection works in conjunction with the clinician's ability to contour the pessary during fitting. A Pessary Sizing Chart is available for clinical sizing reference.
