Hollister Adapt Stoma Powder — Absorbs Moisture, Protects Raw Peristomal Skin, 1 oz Puff Bottle
Turns weeping skin into a dry, adherent surface. Hollister Adapt Stoma Powder is a hydrocolloid-based ostomy skin powder used to absorb moisture and exudate from raw, broken, or weeping peristomal skin — the skin condition that prevents skin barriers from adhering properly and leads to leakage, further skin breakdown, and painful barrier changes. When applied to moist or weeping skin, Adapt Powder absorbs the moisture and forms a sticky gel that creates a dry, adherent surface the skin barrier can bond to securely. Used sparingly as needed before each barrier application on compromised peristomal skin. Comes in a convenient 1 oz squeeze "puff" bottle with a side viewing window to monitor remaining contents. Not an everyday product — a targeted treatment used when peristomal skin is wet, broken, or not holding the barrier. Latex-free. Non-sterile. FSA eligible. SKU 7906.

Note: Adapt Stoma Powder is intended for use on broken or weeping peristomal skin as needed — not as a routine powder for intact skin. Broken, irritated, or denuded peristomal skin should be evaluated by a healthcare professional or ostomy nurse (WOCN). Use sparingly — excess powder should be brushed away before applying the skin barrier.
Features & Benefits
- Absorbs Moisture — Turns Wet Skin Adherent — When peristomal skin is raw, weeping, or producing exudate, standard skin barriers cannot bond properly — the wet surface prevents the adhesive from making full contact with the skin. Adapt Stoma Powder absorbs that surface moisture on contact and converts it into a sticky gel, effectively drying the skin surface and creating an adherent base the barrier can seal against. Without this step, barriers applied to wet skin lift prematurely, leading to leakage, extended skin exposure to output, and a cycle of worsening skin breakdown.
- Protects Raw & Weeping Skin — The gel formed by Adapt Powder on contact with moisture provides a protective layer over broken or denuded skin, shielding it from further contact with stoma output during wear. This protective action gives the skin surface the opportunity to heal between changes while maintaining an effective pouching seal.
- Hydrocolloid Formula — Pectin-Based — The active ingredients — pectin, gelatin, and sodium carboxymethylcellulose — are the same hydrocolloid family used in premium skin barriers. This means the powder is biochemically compatible with the barrier adhesive, supporting rather than interfering with the barrier bond when used correctly and sparingly.
- Puff Bottle with Side Viewing Window — The 1 oz squeeze puff bottle aerates the powder lightly onto the skin surface for even, controlled application without dumping or waste. The side viewing window lets you monitor remaining contents at a glance — no unscrewing the cap to check the supply level.
- Use Sparingly — Brush Away Excess — More is not better with stoma powder. A thin dusting is all that is needed to absorb surface moisture. Excess powder left on the skin before barrier application can actually interfere with adhesion. Apply a light layer, allow it to absorb for a moment, then gently brush away any excess before placing the barrier.
- Latex-Free · FSA / HSA Eligible — Not made with natural rubber latex. Purchase with Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account funds as an ostomy care supply.
Adapt Stoma Powder vs. Adapt Skin Barrier Paste — Which Do You Need?
| Feature | Adapt Stoma Powder (7906) | Adapt Skin Barrier Paste (79300 / 79301) |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Use | Absorbs moisture from wet or weeping broken skin — enables barrier adhesion on compromised skin | Fills skin folds, creases, and irregular contours — prevents drainage tracking under the barrier |
| Skin Condition It Addresses | Wet, raw, broken, or weeping peristomal skin | Uneven skin surface, folds, scars, or creases around stoma |
| How It Works | Absorbs exudate, forms sticky gel, dries skin surface | Fills gaps and crevices like caulk — not an adhesive |
| Frequency of Use | As needed — only when skin is wet or broken | Routine — used at every barrier change for uneven skin |
| Format | 1 oz puff bottle | 2 oz tube (79300) · 0.5 oz travel tube (79301) |
| Used Together? | Yes — powder first on wet areas, then paste in folds, then barrier. Both can be used at the same change. | |
Bottom line: If your skin is wet, raw, or weeping — reach for the powder first. If your skin surface is uneven with folds or creases but otherwise intact — reach for the paste. If both conditions are present, use the powder first to dry the wet areas, then apply paste to fill the irregular contours, then apply the barrier.
How to Use Adapt Stoma Powder
- Wash the peristomal skin thoroughly and pat dry as much as possible.
- Apply a small amount of Adapt Stoma Powder to the raw, broken, or weeping skin areas around the stoma — use the puff bottle to aerate a light dusting directly onto the affected skin.
- Allow the powder to absorb the surface moisture for a moment — it will form a slightly tacky gel on contact with the wet skin.
- Gently brush away any excess powder. Only the amount that has absorbed into the skin should remain — loose excess powder left on the skin surface will interfere with barrier adhesion.
- Apply the skin barrier as normal, pressing firmly from the stoma outward with palm pressure.
Tip: If skin is severely broken or denuded, consult your ostomy nurse (WOCN) before use. For intact skin with uneven contours, Adapt Skin Barrier Paste (79300) is the appropriate product — not powder.
