SKUs: B12S | B14S | 16" Male | Soft Body | Straight Tip | Pre-Lubricated | Touch-Free Protective Tip | Integrated 1500mL Collection Bag | Prescription Required | FSA Eligible | Latex Free
The Apogee Plus Touch Free Soft is a closed-system male intermittent catheter with a softer, more pliable PVC catheter body — combining the infection-control and access advantages of the Apogee Plus closed-system format with the gentler insertion feel of a soft catheter body. Touch-free protective tip shields the first 15mm of the catheter from bacteria before insertion. Urine drains directly into the integrated 1500mL collection bag; no toilet access required. Side-loaded design reduces backflow risk. Pre-lubricated water-based gel. Smooth polished eyelets. 12Fr and 14Fr, 16" male. 30/pack. Prescription required.

Clinical FAQs
Who is the soft body closed-system catheter best suited for?
The Apogee Plus Soft is designed for patients who use a closed-system catheter for its access and infection-control advantages but find a firm-body catheter uncomfortable during insertion. Patients with urethral sensitivity from long-term catheterization history, those who have experienced discomfort with firmer PVC, and patients whose anatomy allows reliable insertion with a more pliable catheter body are the most typical candidates. The soft body is more forgiving against urethral tissue, which may reduce friction-related irritation over years of daily use. However, the soft body requires a urethra that can be navigated without the directional control a firm catheter provides — patients with elevated sphincter tone or resistance at the sphincter sometimes find a softer catheter more difficult to advance through. If a patient is transitioning from an open soft-body catheter and wants to move to a closed system, this product maintains the familiar feel while adding the closed-system bag and touch-free tip.
How does this differ from the Apogee Plus Firm Closed System?
The Soft (B12S, B14S) and Firm (B6F–B18F) versions of the Apogee Plus closed system share identical architecture: same touch-free protective tip, same pre-lubricated gel, same 1500mL collection bag, same side-loaded design, same polished eyelets, same latex-free PVC material. The single difference is catheter body firmness. The Firm version uses a stiffer PVC formulation that maintains its shape under insertion force and provides stronger directional control — preferred for patients navigating elevated sphincter resistance or for those whose anatomy requires a firmer body to advance reliably. The Soft version uses a more flexible PVC for patients who prioritize a gentler insertion feel. The Soft version is also available only in 12Fr and 14Fr; the Firm version covers 6Fr through 18Fr. If the prescribed French size is outside 12Fr or 14Fr, the Firm version is the only closed-system option in this line.
Is the insertion technique different for a soft-body catheter inside the touch-free sleeve?
The steps are the same: remove the blue protective cap, advance the catheter through the protective tip sleeve as you insert — do not advance past the end of the sleeve before insertion begins. The practical difference with a soft body is that the catheter requires more deliberate, steady forward pressure to advance through the sleeve and into the urethra without the catheter deflecting or buckling. Apply consistent gentle pressure and keep the housing stable during advancement. If the soft catheter consistently resists advancement through the sleeve in a way that does not occur with a firm catheter, report this to the prescribing clinician — it may indicate that a firmer body is more appropriate for the anatomy.
Why are only 12Fr and 14Fr available in the Soft configuration?
The 12Fr and 14Fr sizes cover the large majority of adult male intermittent catheter prescriptions. Hollister offers the soft-body configuration in these two sizes to serve patients who prefer soft construction within the most common prescription range, without extending the full 6Fr–18Fr range that the Firm line covers. Patients prescribed 6Fr, 8Fr, 10Fr, 16Fr, or 18Fr are directed to the Firm closed-system line, where all seven French sizes are available. The clinical decision about French size is always the prescriber's — do not adjust French size to match available configurations.
Does the soft body affect the collection bag or drainage performance?
No. The 1500mL collection bag, tear strip, side-loading, and hygiene cap function identically regardless of whether the catheter body is firm or soft. Drainage performance is determined by the eyelet design, French size, and proper positioning — not catheter body stiffness. Once the catheter is correctly placed in the bladder, a soft body and a firm body drain at the same rate for the same French size. The firmness distinction is entirely about insertion mechanics, not drainage performance.
