Intelligent Humidification — How It Works
Ambient Temperature & Humidity Monitoring
Most CPAP humidifiers operate at a fixed heat setting that you choose — if room conditions change (temperature drops at night, humidity varies seasonally), the amount of condensation in your tube and mask changes with it, often requiring manual adjustment. The iBreeze's intelligent humidification monitors room temperature and ambient humidity in real time and automatically adjusts the humidifier's output to maintain appropriate moisture in the therapy airstream without over-humidifying. In practice, this means fewer middle-of-the-night adjustments and less trial-and-error with humidity settings across different seasons or environments.
Water Level Safety Sensor
A dedicated water level sensor monitors the humidifier chamber throughout the therapy session. When the water level drops below a safe threshold, the iBreeze automatically shuts off the humidifier's heating element — displaying a visible alert on the LCD — before the chamber can run dry. This protects the heating element from damage caused by dry-running, which can permanently shorten humidifier lifespan. It also alerts the user to refill before the next session.
Preheat Function
The preheat function warms the humidifier water before therapy begins — allowing the humidifier to reach operating temperature before you put on your mask. In cooler environments, starting therapy with a cold humidifier chamber can result in several minutes of inadequately humidified air before the system warms up. The preheat function eliminates this by warming the water while you're getting ready for bed.
IPR — Intelligent Pressure Release Explained
The iBreeze detects the exact moment your breathing transitions from inhalation to exhalation and reduces mask pressure during that exhale. The IPR level determines how much pressure reduction is applied:
- IPR 0 — off; full prescribed pressure maintained throughout the breath cycle
- IPR 1 — light reduction; subtle comfort improvement; good starting point for most users
- IPR 2 — moderate reduction; recommended for users who notice exhalation discomfort
- IPR 3 — highest reduction; maximum comfort during exhale; appropriate for higher-pressure users or those with strong exhalation sensitivity
The therapeutic pressure during inhalation is not reduced — IPR only affects the exhalation phase, so therapy efficacy is maintained while comfort is improved. Most new CPAP users start at IPR 1 or 2 and adjust based on comfort after the first few nights.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — the iBreeze 20A is an FDA-regulated CPAP device (HCPCS E0601) and requires a valid prescription before it can be shipped. Your prescription must include your physician's contact information, signature, your full name and date of birth, prescription date within the last 365 days, machine type (CPAP), physician NPI number, and your prescribed pressure settings. Upload your prescription during or after checkout.
Most CPAP humidifiers run at a fixed heat level that you manually set. When room conditions change — temperature drops at night, humidity fluctuates seasonally — you get either too much condensation (rainout, causing gurgling sounds and water in the mask) or too little humidification (dryness and irritation). The iBreeze's intelligent humidification monitors ambient temperature and humidity in real time and automatically adjusts the humidifier's output to match — reducing the trial-and-error process of finding the right humidity setting and maintaining consistent comfort across different environments and seasons.
No — the iBreeze includes a standard 6-foot non-heated CPAP tube. Heated tubing is sold separately. The intelligent humidification system significantly reduces rainout compared to standard fixed-output humidifiers, but in very cool bedrooms or with very high humidity settings, some condensation may still occur in non-heated tubing. If you experience gurgling or water droplets in your mask, heated tubing is the most effective solution.
The iBreeze connects to Resvent's ResAssist cloud platform via Wi-Fi, automatically transmitting therapy data including compliance hours, AHI, and session statistics to a cloud portal that your sleep physician or DME provider can access remotely. You can also access the patient-facing ResAssist app to view your own data. ResAssist is managed directly by Resvent — for questions or technical support with the platform, contact Resvent directly at support-resassist@resvent.com. SD card data with iMatrix desktop software provides an alternative local data access option.
Yes — the iBreeze 20A is FAA compliant and cleared for carry-on and in-flight use. Empty the water chamber before packing the machine for air travel to avoid water spills in your bag. The universal 100–240V power supply works with international outlets with an appropriate plug adapter (not included) — making the iBreeze suitable for international travel without a voltage converter.
Use distilled water only — never tap water, filtered water, or bottled spring water. Tap and spring water contain dissolved minerals that accumulate as scale inside the humidifier chamber and heating element over time, reducing efficiency and eventually damaging the machine. Distilled water is inexpensive and widely available at grocery stores. Empty the chamber completely every morning and refill with fresh distilled water each night before use.
Yes — CPAP machines are eligible for FSA and HSA reimbursement. Save your receipt and submit to your benefits administrator. CPAP accessories including masks, tubing, filters, and water chambers are also typically FSA/HSA eligible.
