AirMist HME Waterless Humidification — Compatible, Sold Separately
How It Works
The AirMist Heat Moisture Exchanger (HME) adds waterless humidification by capturing moisture from your exhaled breath and recycling it back into the incoming therapy air — no water tank, no distilled water to carry, no spill risk. The HME attaches between the mask connection and the hose. Each AirMist cartridge must be replaced every 7 days after opening, regardless of nightly use frequency.
Mask Compatibility for AirMist
AirMist works best with masks that connect directly to tubing in front of the face (full face and standard nasal masks). It does not work effectively with overhead-tube masks (AirFit P30i, DreamWear) or short front-tube masks (AirFit P10, AirFit F40). If you use one of these mask types, waterless humidification will not deliver meaningful benefit. For users with very sensitive airways in dry climates who use an overhead-tube mask, a full-size machine with heated humidification may be more appropriate for regular home use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — the Transcend Micro is an FDA Class II medical device (HCPCS E0601) and requires a valid prescription from a licensed physician before it can be shipped. You can upload your prescription during checkout, provide your doctor's contact information and their team will contact the doctor directly, or email your prescription after ordering. If you need a prescription renewal, Transcend can assist with that process.
The original Transcend Micro (this product) and the newer Micro 510 (2026) share the same form factor, weight, and core therapy features. The Micro 510 adds: dual filters (woven and hypoallergenic, vs. the single PureFresh black foam filter here); a redesigned TransFlex hose (vs. AirFlex here); AirMist HME starter kit included as standard (sold separately for this machine); a hard shell travel case included (not included here); an extended 3-year warranty (vs. 2 years here); and three additional color options (Petal Pink, Midnight Blue, Birch White). The two generations use different, incompatible filters. If you already own the original Micro and have spare PureFresh filters or accessories, stay with this generation. If you're starting fresh, the 510 provides better included value.
Yes — the Transcend Micro is fully capable of home use as a primary CPAP machine. It provides the same therapeutic performance as a full-size machine. Many users choose it as their only CPAP rather than maintaining separate home and travel machines. The main considerations for full-time home use are: it does not have a built-in heated humidifier (AirMist HME is available but works differently from a heated chamber), and the companion app and desktop software provide therapy data rather than the cloud-connected compliance reporting that some home machines and insurance programs require. If your insurance or sleep clinic requires cloud compliance data from a specific platform (like ResMed myAir or Philips DreamMapper), confirm compatibility before switching entirely.
Yes — the Transcend Micro is FAA compliant and cleared for carry-on and in-flight use on domestic and international flights. It does not need to be powered off during flight. For flights without seat power, the optional PowerAway Battery provides up to 17.5 hours of operation per charge — enough for extended international routes. Confirm CPAP in-flight policy with your specific airline before traveling, as some carriers require advance notification.
No — the Transcend Micro does not include a heated humidifier or built-in water chamber. It is compatible with the optional AirMist HME waterless humidification system (sold separately), which adds moisture by recycling exhaled breath humidity. AirMist works best with standard full face and nasal masks with front-of-face tubing connections. It is not effective with overhead-tube masks or short front-tube pillow masks. For users who require significant humidification due to dry airways or sensitive tissues, a full-size machine with a heated passover humidifier may be preferable for regular home use.
The PowerAway Battery is an optional accessory sold separately that provides up to 17.5 hours of CPAP therapy per charge — approximately two full nights of use — without AC power. It is one of the smallest and lightest CPAP batteries available, weighing 1.0 lb, and is specifically designed to work with the Transcend Micro. It is ideal for camping, flights without seat power, power outages, or as a backup power source at home. It is not included with the machine and must be purchased separately.
Basic comfort settings — ramp time, ramp start pressure, and AirRelief exhalation relief intensity — can be adjusted through the MySleepDash app after enabling Bluetooth on the machine. Advanced clinical settings (pressure range limits, switching between APAP and fixed CPAP mode, maximum pressure adjustments) require the free Transcend MiniCPAP Desktop Software, which is Windows-only. If you use a Mac and need to adjust clinical settings, contact your prescribing physician or sleep clinic to make the adjustments for you.
Yes — CPAP machines are eligible for FSA and HSA reimbursement. Save your receipt and submit to your benefits administrator. CPAP therapy accessories (masks, hose, filters, AirMist HME) are also typically FSA/HSA eligible — confirm with your plan administrator for specific item eligibility.
