Description

Molnlycke Mepilex Border Flex Lite Foam Dressing — Thin, Repositionable, Showerproof, 5 Sizes

A thin, highly conformable all-in-one foam dressing built for the wound sites that standard dressings can't fit. Mepilex Border Flex Lite is Molnlycke's thinnest self-adherent bordered foam dressing — engineered specifically for low- to moderately exuding wounds on the feet, toes, fingers, and hands where a bulkier dressing would lift, bunch, or restrict movement. Its Safetac® silicone wound contact layer adheres gently to intact periwound skin without bonding to the wound bed, and — uniquely — can be lifted and repositioned during application without losing its adherent properties. A tapered edge design allows the border to lie completely flat and smooth against the skin, eliminating the edge-lifting that leads to early dressing failure on high-movement sites. Showerproof, waterproof, and tested as a barrier to viruses and bacteria. Available in five sizes from a 1.6" x 2" mini for toe wounds up to 6" x 6" for larger extremity coverage.

✔ Thinnest Mepilex Bordered Foam — Conforms to Feet, Toes, Fingers & Hands    ✔ Repositionable Safetac® Silicone — Reposition During Application Without Losing Adherence    ✔ Tapered Edge — Lies Flat, Resists Lifting on High-Movement Sites    ✔ Showerproof & Virus-Barrier Film — Wear in the Shower, Protected from External Contamination

Indicated For — Wound Types & Applications

  • Diabetic foot ulcers — especially toe, heel, and plantar surface wounds where conformability is critical
  • Post-operative wounds — surgical incisions and closure sites requiring a low-profile, secure dressing
  • Traumatic wounds — abrasions, skin tears, minor lacerations on extremities
  • Acute wounds on the feet, toes, hands, and fingers where standard bordered foam dressings are too thick or rigid
  • Chronic wounds with low to moderate exudate requiring long wear between changes
  • Any wound site where a thin, flexible, fully self-adherent dressing without secondary fixation is the clinical or practical requirement

What Makes Flex Lite Different — Thin Profile, Tapered Edge, Repositionable Silicone

Most bordered foam dressings are designed for flat wound beds on the torso or limbs — they're sized for coverage, not for the anatomical challenges of toes, knuckles, heels, or post-surgical incision lines where skin constantly bends, stretches, and folds. Mepilex Border Flex Lite addresses this gap with three design features that standard bordered foam dressings don't offer.

  • Thin, Highly Conformable Foam Core: The ultra-thin foam pad flexes with the skin surface through the full range of joint movement — on a toe, finger, or heel — without buckling, bunching, or creating pressure points at the dressing border. This is the defining clinical advantage of the Flex Lite over both the standard Mepilex Border and heavier foam dressings, which lift and fail at high-flexion wound sites
  • Repositionable Safetac® Silicone Layer: Unlike most foam dressing adhesives that bond immediately and permanently on contact, the Safetac silicone layer on the Flex Lite can be lifted and repositioned during application without losing its ability to adhere. This matters most on challenging anatomy — a toe wound, a finger, a heel — where getting exact placement on the first attempt is difficult. The dressing can be peeled back and reapplied without losing tack or damaging periwound skin
  • Tapered Edge Design: The border of the Flex Lite tapers down to the skin surface rather than ending in an abrupt edge. This eliminates the raised lip that standard bordered foam dressings create at the adhesive margin — the primary point where dressings catch on socks, footwear, gloves, or bedding and begin to peel back. The tapered edge stays flush against the skin, significantly extending wear time on high-movement sites
  • High MVTR (Moisture Vapor Transmission Rate) Backing: The outer film is highly breathable — allowing moisture vapor to pass through while blocking liquid, bacteria, and viruses — which helps maintain the right moisture balance at the wound bed and prevents the overhydration of periwound skin that can occur under low-breathability films
  • Virus-Barrier Film: The backing film has been tested as a barrier to viruses and bacteria of size greater than 25nm — providing meaningful protection against external contamination at wound sites that are regularly exposed to a contaminated environment (footwear, floors, communal surfaces)

Application & Use Guide

  • Cleanse the wound and dry the periwound skin thoroughly before application
  • Select a size that covers the wound and extends onto intact surrounding skin on all sides — the Safetac border must contact intact skin to seal
  • Remove the release backing and position the dressing over the wound — if placement is not ideal, the dressing can be lifted and repositioned without damaging the silicone layer or the skin
  • Press the border firmly against the periwound skin once final position is confirmed — the tapered edge should lie completely flat with no raised margin
  • No secondary fixation is required — the self-adherent Safetac border holds the dressing securely without tape or bandage
  • The dressing is showerproof — patients may bathe or shower normally; avoid prolonged soaking
  • Change when exudate approaches the border, or per clinical protocol — wear time depends on wound exudate level and skin condition
  • Remove by gently lifting from a corner and peeling back slowly — Safetac releases without stripping or trauma

Choosing the Right Size

  • 1.6" x 2" (581011) — The smallest size in the Mepilex Border line — purpose-built for toe wounds, fingertip wounds, and very small acute wound sites where any larger dressing would extend onto adjacent toes or restrict range of motion. 10 dressings per box
  • 2" x 5" (581100) — Narrow rectangle — ideal for elongated wounds on fingers, toes, or along the shin; post-surgical incision coverage on extremities. 5 per box
  • 3" x 3" (581200) — Small square — toe knuckle wounds, heel edge wounds, smaller diabetic foot ulcers, and post-surgical sites requiring moderate coverage. 5 per box
  • 4" x 4" (581300) — Standard square — the most common general-purpose Flex Lite size; covers the majority of diabetic foot ulcer and post-operative wound sites on the foot and lower extremity. 5 per box
  • 6" x 6" (581500) — Largest Flex Lite — for wider wound surfaces on the plantar foot, dorsum, heel, palm, or any larger extremity wound requiring full Flex Lite coverage. 5 per box
