Description

MPM Antiseptic Wound & Skin Cleanser — Benzethonium Chloride, No-Rinse, Up to 3x Daily, 2 Sizes

A non-irritating no-rinse antiseptic wound and skin cleanser that kills bacteria and fungi on contact, removes debris and slough, eliminates wound odor, and is gentle enough for daily use on chronic and acute wounds. MPM Antiseptic Wound and Skin Cleanser is a benzethonium chloride-based antiseptic spray formulated specifically for wound and skin cleansing — not a general-purpose disinfectant repurposed for wound care. Benzethonium chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound that kills bacteria and fungi on contact at the wound surface while remaining non-irritating to living wound tissue — providing effective antimicrobial cleansing without the cytotoxic tissue damage associated with povidone-iodine, hydrogen peroxide, or chlorine-based wound cleansers. The non-ionic surfactant formulation gently loosens and removes particulate matter, microorganisms, and wound debris without mechanical scrubbing — protecting fragile granulating tissue and healing surfaces while thoroughly cleansing the wound bed. No rinse is required — apply, allow to dry if bandaging, and cover with dressing. Available in 2oz and 8oz spray formats.

✔ Benzethonium Chloride — Kills Bacteria & Fungi on Contact, Non-Cytotoxic to Wound Tissue    ✔ No-Rinse Formula — Apply and Dress, No Irrigation Step Required    ✔ Non-Ionic Surfactant — Gently Removes Debris Without Mechanical Scrubbing    ✔ Eliminates Wound Odor — Breaks Chain of Cross-Contamination    ✔ Made in USA — American-Made by MPM Medical Since 1992

How It Works — Benzethonium Chloride + Non-Ionic Surfactant

Common wound cleansers fall into two categories — those that are effective antiseptics but cytotoxic to wound tissue at clinical concentrations (hydrogen peroxide, full-strength povidone-iodine, Dakin's solution), and those that are tissue-safe but provide limited antimicrobial activity (saline, gentle surfactant cleansers). MPM Antiseptic Wound Cleanser bridges this gap with benzethonium chloride at 0.1% — a quaternary ammonium concentration that is bactericidal and fungicidal on contact while remaining non-irritating to living wound tissue at this clinical dose. The non-ionic surfactant component adds the mechanical cleaning action that benzethonium chloride alone does not provide — loosening and lifting debris, slough, microorganisms, and wound bed contaminants so they can be carried away from the wound surface by the spray rather than requiring scrubbing that would disrupt granulating tissue. The combination delivers what wound cleansing protocols require — antimicrobial activity and mechanical débridement support — in a single no-rinse spray application.

  • Benzethonium chloride 0.1% — kills bacteria and fungi on contact, bactericidal at clinical dose without cytotoxicity
  • Non-cytotoxic — does not delay wound healing unlike hydrogen peroxide, full-strength povidone-iodine, or chlorine solutions
  • Non-ionic surfactant — gently loosens slough, debris, and microorganisms for spray-away removal without mechanical scrubbing
  • No-rinse formula — apply at dressing change, allow to dry, dress immediately — no irrigation step required
  • Virtually eliminates wound odor on contact — significant benefit for chronic wounds and palliative care
  • Spray format — delivers cleanser directly to wound bed including cavity and deep wounds without contact
  • Adjustable spray nozzle — targeted application minimizes product use and periwound skin exposure
  • Safe for up to 3 applications daily — appropriate for routine dressing change protocols
  • Made in USA by MPM Medical since 1992 — trusted by wound care professionals for over 30 years

Choosing the Right Size

  • MP00031 — 2oz Spray Bottle — Compact size — ideal for travel, single-patient home use, or facilities where a smaller spray volume per patient is preferred. Cost-effective for minor wound management and spot treatment.
  • MP00032 — 8oz Spray Bottle — Standard clinical size — the most widely used format for ongoing wound management at home or in clinical settings. Best value for chronic wound patients requiring daily or multiple-times-daily cleansing across an extended treatment course.

How to Apply — Step by Step

Step Action
1 Remove existing dressing and discard per protocol
2 Hold spray bottle 2–4 inches from the wound surface and spray directly onto the affected area — spray on liberally to cover the entire wound bed
3 Allow cleanser to act on the wound surface — loosened debris may be gently wiped away with sterile gauze if needed
4 No rinse required — if applying a bandage, allow the cleanser to dry first so the bandage will adhere properly
5 Cover with appropriate wound dressing — may be covered with a sterile bandage or wound dressing per physician order
6 Repeat up to 3 times daily as directed — do not use for more than 10 days without physician direction
