Description

Kendall Polyskin II Transparent Film Dressing — Moisture-Responsive Film, Improved Wet Adhesion, 3 Sizes

A transparent film dressing built to stay put — even when it gets wet. Polyskin II by Kendall (Covidien) is a waterproof, breathable polyurethane transparent film dressing with two specific performance improvements over standard transparent films: improved breathability for longer wear time through better oxygen and moisture vapor exchange, and improved wet adhesion properties that maintain secure adhesion in moist environments where standard film adhesives begin to lift. The semi-permeable, moisture-responsive film is impermeable to external liquids and microorganisms while remaining highly permeable to oxygen and moisture vapor — creating the moist wound environment needed for healing while keeping external contaminants out. Two-tab delivery system for one-handed aseptic application. Rounded edges to prevent roll-up and edge lift. Available in three sizes for IV sites, wounds, and large post-operative coverage.

✔ Improved Wet Adhesion — Holds in Moist Environments    ✔ Improved Breathability — Better O₂ & Moisture Vapor Exchange for Longer Wear    ✔ Moisture-Responsive Film — Impermeable to Liquids & Microorganisms    ✔ Rounded Edges — Prevents Roll-Up & Edge Lift    ✔ Two-Tab Delivery — One-Handed Aseptic Application    ✔ Latex-Free, Hypoallergenic

How Polyskin II Works — Moisture-Responsive Film & Improved Wet Adhesion

Standard transparent film dressings use a fixed-permeability film and a standard adhesive that performs well on dry skin under normal conditions. Polyskin II addresses the two most common failure modes of standard transparent films — breathability limitations that shorten wear time, and adhesive failure in moist environments:

  • Moisture-responsive film — the semi-permeable polymer film responds to moisture conditions at the wound site, remaining impermeable to liquid water and microorganisms while maximizing oxygen and moisture vapor transmission. The moisture-responsiveness helps the film adapt to changing conditions at the wound site throughout the wear period.
  • Improved breathability — higher oxygen and moisture vapor permeability compared to standard transparent films means moisture does not accumulate under the dressing as quickly, keeping the periwound skin drier and the dressing adhered longer. This directly extends wear time and reduces unscheduled dressing changes.
  • Improved wet adhesion — the hypoallergenic adhesive is specifically formulated to maintain adhesion in moist environments — perspiration, wound moisture, and skin moisture that cause standard adhesives to lift and fail. Particularly useful for diaphoretic patients, high-humidity environments, and IV sites where moisture accumulation is common.
  • Rounded edges — edge geometry is designed to prevent the corner lifting and roll-up that leads to premature dressing failure and contamination risk on standard rectangular film dressings.
  • Outstanding bacterial and fluid barrier — impermeable to external liquid contaminants and microorganisms; protects the wound site from environmental contamination throughout the wear period.
  • Two-tab delivery system — allows accurate, one-handed aseptic placement without touching the adhesive surface; individually wrapped for sterility maintenance until the moment of use.

Choosing the Right Size

  • 6640 (2 x 2-3/4") — The standard peripheral IV and small wound size. Box of 100 — best value for high-volume IV site use in clinical settings.
  • 6641 (4 x 4-3/4") — The general-purpose standard size. Central line sites, donor sites, standard wound coverage, and secondary dressing over wound fillers. Box of 50.
  • 6648 (8 x 10") — Large coverage format. Post-surgical sites, large wounds, extensive donor sites, or any application requiring maximum transparent film coverage. Box of 10.

Application Instructions

  1. Clean the wound or IV site and dry the surrounding skin thoroughly
  2. Open the sterile package immediately before use
  3. Using the two-tab delivery system, position the dressing over the site without touching the adhesive surface
  4. Apply with light pressure from center outward — smooth to conform and remove air bubbles
  5. Press firmly around all edges to ensure complete adhesion, including the rounded corners
  6. Monitor the site through the transparent film — the dressing is designed for extended wear; change when the dressing lifts, becomes saturated, or as clinically directed
  7. To remove: lift one corner and slowly stretch the film parallel to the skin surface
