Smith & Nephew IV3000 Moisture Responsive Catheter Dressing — REACTIC Film, 4 Delivery Systems, Multiple Sizes
The dressing that responds to moisture — not just tolerates it. IV3000 by Smith & Nephew is a transparent polyurethane catheter fixation dressing built around REACTIC film technology — a unique molecular film structure that becomes significantly more permeable to water vapor in the presence of moisture. Where standard IV films simply sit over the catheter site and allow moisture to accumulate underneath, IV3000's REACTIC film actively responds to moisture buildup by increasing its own vapor transmission rate, allowing excess moisture to escape as vapor and keeping the skin beneath the dressing drier. This directly reduces the environment in which bacteria flourish around IV sites, supporting CRBSI prevention protocols and reducing unscheduled dressing changes. Transparent for continuous site monitoring, waterproof for patient showering, and available in four delivery systems sized for peripheral, central line, PICC, and epidural catheter applications.
✔ REACTIC Film — Moisture-Responsive, Switches to Higher MVTR When Wet ✔ Transparent — Visual Monitoring Without Dressing Removal ✔ Waterproof — Patients Can Shower With Dressing in Place ✔ Up to 7-Day Wear — Reduces Unscheduled Changes ✔ Latex-Free, Low-Allergy Grid Adhesive

Indicated For
- Peripheral venous catheter fixation
- Central venous catheter (CVC) fixation
- PICC line fixation
- Epidural catheter fixation
- Jugular catheter fixation
- Any IV site where moisture accumulation and CRBSI risk reduction is a clinical priority
Note: IV3000 is indicated for IV catheter sites only. For open wounds such as pressure injuries, burns, or donor sites, use OpSite Flexigrid instead. Apply to dry, prepared skin only. Do not stack or overlap dressings.
How IV3000 Works — REACTIC Film Technology
Standard polyurethane IV films have a fixed moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR) — they allow a set amount of water vapor to pass through regardless of conditions at the site. The problem is that IV sites are dynamic — perspiration, patient movement, and local skin conditions cause moisture levels beneath the dressing to fluctuate. A fixed-MVTR film can't respond to that variability, and moisture accumulates.
IV3000's REACTIC film solves this with a unique molecular structure that changes its own permeability in response to moisture. When moisture builds up beneath the dressing, the film switches to a higher MVTR state, allowing that moisture to escape as vapor rather than pooling under the dressing. The result:
- Drier skin under the dressing — less maceration, less adhesive lifting, fewer unscheduled changes
- Reduced bacterial environment — moisture is a primary driver of bacterial growth at IV sites; REACTIC film actively works against that condition
- Better dressing adherence — drier skin means the dressing stays in place longer, supporting the full 7-day wear interval
- Greater patient comfort — less skin maceration and irritation under the dressing over extended wear
- CRBSI prevention support — moisture control is a recognized component of catheter-related bloodstream infection prevention protocols
The film also acts as a physical barrier to bacteria including MRSA, provides waterproof protection for patient showering, and is fully transparent for continuous visual inspection of the catheter insertion site without dressing removal.
Choosing the Right IV3000 Size & Delivery System
| Delivery System | Best For | Key Feature |
|---|---|---|
| Non-Ported / One-Hand | Peripheral or central — standard application on accessible sites | Single-hand application, no port slot |
| Frame Delivery | Peripheral or central — improved handling with gloves | Large tabs for easy placement even with gloved hands |
| Standard / Reinforced Handle | Central, PICC, epidural, jugular — larger coverage area needed | Reinforced handle for controlled placement on larger sites |
| Ported | Central — catheter hub requires port slot | Slot accommodates cannula port; non-woven wings reinforce around hub |

Application Instructions
- Prepare and dry the skin at the IV site thoroughly before application
- Remove IV3000 from sterile packaging immediately before use
- Apply dressing directly over the catheter insertion site — do not stretch the film
- Smooth from center outward to remove air bubbles and ensure full adhesion
- Do not overlap or stack dressings
- Monitor the site and dressing regularly — check for signs of infection, phlebitis, or dressing lift especially after bathing or showering
- Change dressing if it lifts, becomes saturated, or per clinical protocol — maximum 7-day wear
- If dressing comes off, evaluate catheter placement before applying a new dressing
