Smith & Nephew OpSite Post-Op Transparent Waterproof Dressing with Absorbent Pad — REACTIC Film, 8 Sizes
Post-surgical wound coverage that does three things at once — absorbs exudate, stays waterproof, and lets you see the wound without removing the dressing. OpSite Post-Op by Smith & Nephew is a composite island dressing that combines the REACTIC moisture-responsive polyurethane film used in the IV3000 and OpSite film lines with a highly absorbent, low-adherent pad in a single ready-to-apply unit. The REACTIC film switches on in the presence of moisture — becoming significantly more permeable to water vapor — preventing moisture accumulation under the dressing that drives bacterial growth and maceration. The thick absorbent pad rapidly absorbs post-surgical exudate and allows lateral spread across the pad to maximize absorbency while protecting the wound from mechanical trauma. The low-adherent wound contact layer passes exudate through to the pad while leaving the wound bed clean and minimizing pain on removal. Transparent film throughout for continuous wound monitoring without dressing removal. Available in 8 sizes from 2-1/2 x 2 inch through 4 x 13-3/4 inch for small surgical sites through large incision coverage.
✔ REACTIC Film — Moisture-Responsive, Switches On to Prevent Maceration ✔ Highly Absorbent Pad — Rapid Absorption with Lateral Spread ✔ Low-Adherent Wound Contact Layer — Minimal Trauma on Removal ✔ Transparent Film — Monitor Wound & Exudate Level Without Removal ✔ Waterproof — Patients Can Shower with Dressing in Place ✔ 8 Sizes — Small Incision Through Large Post-Surgical Coverage

Indicated For — Wound Types & Applications
- Post-operative surgical wound coverage — primary indication across all sizes
- Closed surgical incisions requiring absorbent coverage and waterproof protection
- Moderately exuding wounds — surgical wounds, lacerations, abrasions
- Hip and knee arthroplasty post-operative sites
- Donor sites
- Superficial wounds requiring combined absorbency and transparent monitoring
- Any wound where the patient needs to shower without dressing change disruption
- Wounds where wound exudate monitoring without dressing removal is a clinical priority
How OpSite Post-Op Works — Three Layers, One Dressing
Standard post-operative dressings use either a gauze pad (absorbent but not waterproof, not transparent) or a plain transparent film (waterproof and transparent but not absorbent). OpSite Post-Op integrates all three functions into a single composite dressing:
- Layer 1 — REACTIC polyurethane film (outer): The same moisture-responsive film technology used in IV3000. In dry conditions it maintains a baseline MVTR. In the presence of moisture — perspiration, exudate, or external water — the unique hydrophilic molecular structure switches to a higher permeability state, actively preventing moisture accumulation under the dressing that would otherwise drive maceration and bacterial growth. The film is impermeable to liquid water and body fluids from the outside, allowing patients to shower without disrupting the dressing. Transparent throughout for continuous wound and exudate monitoring.
- Layer 2 — Highly absorbent pad (middle): Rapidly absorbs post-surgical exudate as it passes through the wound contact layer. The pad design allows lateral spread of absorbed fluid across the full pad area, maximizing absorbent capacity and helping prevent localized saturation that causes strike-through and maceration. The thick pad also provides mechanical protection to the wound from external trauma.
- Layer 3 — Low-adherent wound contact layer (inner): The surface that touches the wound bed is non-adherent — it allows exudate to pass through into the absorbent pad while preventing the pad from bonding to healing tissue. On removal, the wound contact layer lifts away cleanly with minimal trauma and pain, leaving the wound bed undisturbed.
Together, these three layers eliminate the need for a separate primary dressing, secondary cover, and tape — one dressing applied, one dressing removed, with continuous waterproof protection and visual monitoring throughout the wear period.
Choosing the Right Size
- 66000708 (2-1/2 x 2") — Smallest format. Minor surgical wounds, drain sites, suture lines on small incisions. Box of 100 — best value for high-volume clinical use.
- 66000709 (3-3/4 x 3-3/8") — Standard small-to-medium coverage. Most common choice for general surgical wound coverage in outpatient and home care settings.
- 66000710 (4-3/4 x 4") — General purpose standard size. Hip, knee, and abdominal surgical sites — the most widely used format for standard post-operative wound management.
- 66000712 (6-1/8 x 3-3/8") — Elongated narrow format. Suture lines on limbs, elongated incisions, or sites where coverage is needed along a line rather than over an area.
- 66000713 (8 x 4") — Larger format for extended incision coverage. Knee arthroplasty, hip replacement, and larger abdominal surgical sites.
- 66000714 (9-7/8 x 4") — Extended coverage for longer incision lines. Total knee or hip replacement sites requiring additional length.
- 66000715 (4 x 11-3/4") — Long narrow format. Spinal and lumbar surgical sites, thoracic incisions, or any long incision requiring extended lengthwise coverage.
- 66000716 (4 x 13-3/4") — Largest format. Maximum length coverage for extensive spinal, thoracic, or abdominal surgical sites.

Application Instructions
- Ensure the wound and surrounding skin are clean and dry before application
- Select the appropriate size — the dressing border should overlap the wound edges by at least 2–3 cm on all sides
- Remove the dressing from sterile packaging immediately before use
- Peel the backing and apply the dressing directly over the wound, centering the absorbent pad over the incision
- Press down from center outward — smooth all edges and rounded corners firmly to the skin
- Monitor the wound and exudate level through the transparent film at each clinical visit — the dressing does not need to be removed for visual inspection
- Change when the pad is saturated, when exudate approaches the dressing border, or as clinically directed
- To remove: lift one corner and stretch the film gently parallel to the skin; the low-adherent wound contact layer will separate from the wound bed with minimal trauma
