Description

3M Promogran Matrix — ORC + Collagen, No Silver, 3.4x More Wound Closures, 2 Sizes

The original ORC + collagen wound dressing — clinically proven to give stalled chronic wounds 3.4 times greater odds of closure, without silver. 3M Promogran Matrix is a sterile freeze-dried composite of 55% collagen and 45% Oxidized Regenerated Cellulose (ORC) — the original formulation of the Promogran Matrix Family and the only collagen dressing of its kind for patients where silver is contraindicated or not clinically indicated. Like Promogran Prisma, Promogran Matrix transforms on contact with wound exudate into a soft, conformable, biodegradable gel that covers the entire wound surface — absorbing and inactivating the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and elastases that chronically stall wound healing, providing native collagen scaffolding for fibroblast migration and granulation tissue formation, and maintaining the physiologically moist microenvironment essential for epithelialization. The biodegradable gel absorbs progressively into the wound over time — no removal required at dressing changes. Backed by the same meta-analysis of 10 randomized controlled trials demonstrating 3.4 times greater odds of wound closure compared to standard dressings.

✔ Only ORC + Collagen Dressing Without Silver — Ideal for Silver-Sensitive Patients    ✔ 3.4x Greater Odds of Wound Closure — Same RCT Evidence Base as Promogran Prisma    ✔ ORC Inactivates MMPs — Removes the Biochemical Barrier Stalling Chronic Wounds    ✔ Biodegradable Gel — No Removal Required at Dressing Changes    ✔ Compression & NPWT Compatible — Versatile Across Wound Protocols

Indicated For — Wound Types

  • Diabetic foot ulcers — stalled or chronic, particularly where silver is not indicated
  • Venous leg ulcers — with or without compression
  • Pressure injuries and ulcers — all stages
  • Ulcers caused by mixed vascular etiologies
  • Traumatic wounds — abrasions, lacerations, donor sites, and bleeding surface wounds
  • Surgical wounds healing by secondary intention
  • Full and partial thickness wounds with exudate
  • Wounds stalled in the inflammatory phase where silver is contraindicated or not clinically needed
  • Patients with known silver sensitivity — silver-free alternative to Promogran Prisma
  • Wounds requiring MRI-compatible wound management — no silver means no MRI restriction

Contraindications: Not indicated for wounds with active vasculitis, third-degree burns, or patients with known sensitivity to ORC or collagen. May be used on infected wounds only when proper medical treatment addresses the underlying infection. Not a substitute for infection treatment.

How It Works — ORC + Collagen Without Silver

Promogran Matrix works through exactly the same ORC + collagen mechanism as Promogran Prisma — the silver-free formulation delivers identical wound healing performance for wounds that do not require active antimicrobial coverage. The ORC component absorbs and inactivates MMPs and elastases from wound fluid, removing the biochemical stall mechanism that prevents chronic wounds from progressing. With destructive proteases neutralized, the collagen scaffold can function as intended — providing the structural framework for fibroblast migration, granulation tissue formation, and re-epithelialization across the wound bed. The dressing transforms on contact with exudate into a soft biodegradable gel that adapts to the wound surface, maintains the physiologically moist environment, and absorbs progressively into the wound between dressing changes. The clinical outcome is equivalent to Promogran Prisma for wounds without active infection — making Promogran Matrix the right choice when silver is not indicated, contraindicated, or when MRI compatibility is a requirement.

  • ORC absorbs and inactivates MMPs and elastases — removes biochemical barrier stalling chronic wound healing
  • Only collagen dressing with ORC — unique mechanism not available in standard collagen dressings
  • Collagen scaffold supports fibroblast migration, granulation tissue formation, and epithelialization
  • Transforms into biodegradable conformable gel — covers all wound contours, no gaps
  • Gel absorbs into wound over time — no removal required at dressing changes
  • Maintains physiologically moist microenvironment throughout wear
  • Proven in meta-analysis of 10 RCTs — 3.4x greater odds of wound closure vs standard dressings
  • Silver-free — appropriate for silver-sensitive patients and silver-contraindicated wound protocols
  • MRI safe — no silver means no imaging restrictions during wound management
  • Compression and NPWT compatible — same versatility as Promogran Prisma

Promogran Matrix vs. Promogran Prisma — Choosing the Right Version

Choose Promogran Matrix (MA022/MA033) When: Choose Promogran Prisma (MA028/MA019) When:
Wound is clean, non-infected, and healing is stalled without active infection Wound is infected, colonized, or at high risk of bacterial complications
Patient has known silver sensitivity or silver is contraindicated Antimicrobial protection is clinically indicated alongside ORC/collagen therapy
MRI imaging is required or anticipated during wound management MRI is not anticipated and silver's antibacterial barrier is beneficial
Clinical protocol calls for silver-free wound management Wound has MRSA, Pseudomonas, or other resistant organism colonization
ORC + collagen wound healing benefit is the primary goal without antimicrobial need Both wound healing acceleration and infection protection are simultaneously needed

How to Apply — Step by Step

Step Action
1 Prepare wound bed per standard protocol — debride necrotic tissue before applying
2 Cut to fit the wound with scissors if needed — cover the entire wound bed surface
3 If wound has exudate — apply directly, exudate will initiate gel transformation
4 If wound is dry — moisten with sterile saline or Ringer's solution before or after application to initiate gel formation
5 Cover with a semi-occlusive or non-occlusive secondary dressing fixed with non-irritating tape — compression bandage if indicated
6 At dressing change — residual gel does not need to be removed, apply fresh Promogran Matrix every 72 hours

Choosing the Right Size

  • MA022 — 4.34 sq in (approx. 2¼" x 2¼" hexagon) — 10/box — Standard size — the most widely used size for general diabetic ulcer, venous ulcer, and pressure injury management. The hexagon shape provides better wound edge coverage than a standard square. Best for wounds up to approximately 4 square inches in surface area.
  • MA033 — 19.1 sq in (approx. 4¾" x 4¾") — 10/box — Large size — for broader wounds, large pressure injuries, extensive post-surgical sites, and any wound that exceeds the MA022 coverage area. Can be cut to shape. More cost-effective per square inch for large wound applications.

Storage: Store below 25°C (77°F) away from direct light to maintain product integrity.
