The Harmar AL100HD Heavy Duty Platform Scooter Lift is Harmar's 400 lb outside hitch-mounted platform lift — the heavy-duty version of the AL100, adding 50 lbs of capacity in the same compact, auto-folding outside platform design. At just 84 lbs installed, the AL100HD is one of the lightest 400 lb outside lifts available. The platform lowers automatically to ground level, the scooter drives on, the hold-down arm secures it, and the lift raises the device into the transport position behind the vehicle. When empty, the deck automatically folds flat and extends only 12 inches behind the bumper — less intrusion than most standard hitch cargo carriers. Class III hitch standard, Class V available. Florida License Plate Notice — Required on Lift
Florida is among the states that require the vehicle's license plate to be displayed on the outside lift, not on the vehicle bumper. If you are a Florida customer, the XL License Plate Riser (AL904, +$220) is strongly recommended — add it at the time of order. Failure to display the license plate on the lift may result in a traffic citation. We will flag this on every AL100HD order from Florida customers.

The AL100HD requires a Class III or Class V receiver hitch on your vehicle — not Class I or Class II. The AL100HD is Harmar's heaviest outside platform lift at just 84 lbs installed — an exceptional weight-to-capacity ratio. The platform lowers automatically to ground level; the user drives the scooter on using the joystick. The hold-down arm automatically secures the device. Press the remote and the lift raises to transport position. When the device is removed, the deck folds automatically to a flat position extending only 12 inches behind the bumper — not a hazard, not a constant visual, just a compact hitch-mounted platform that stays out of the way when not in use.

The AL100HD mounts to any Class III or Class V receiver hitch with a hitch height between 5 and 18 inches. A hitch adapter (AL-series, +$199) must be specified at time of order to match your hitch's exact height and drop — Harmar offers standard, extra-long, 2" drop, 5" drop, 6" drop, and 8" drop configurations in both standard and extra-long arm lengths for Class III, and corresponding options for Class V. Swing-Away Option · Trunk Access · Backup Camera Add-On Available
The optional Swing-Away (AL105, 400 lb capacity, +$580 — or AL105L lightweight, 350 lb, +$640) allows the lift and loaded scooter to swing to the side, providing full access to the vehicle's trunk or liftgate without unloading the scooter. For outside lifts, the backup camera is obstructed by the device on the platform — the Multi-View Backup Camera or Mirror/Camera system ($825, professional installation required) restores rear visibility. Both camera options require professional installation at the time of order.

The AL100 has a 350 lb capacity. The AL100HD is the heavy-duty version with a 400 lb capacity — same outside platform design, same auto-fold and auto-lower mechanism, same 12" bumper extension when folded empty. If your scooter plus any accessories or cargo weighs 351–400 lbs, the HD is required. If it's 350 lbs or under, either works — call us to confirm which is appropriate for your device: 866-218-0902.
Yes — the hitch adapter must be specified when you order. The adapter matches the AL100HD to your vehicle's specific hitch height and receiver drop. Call us with your vehicle year, make, model, and hitch height (measure from the ground to the center of the hitch receiver opening) and we will confirm the correct adapter — Standard, Extra Long, 2" Drop, 5" Drop, 6" Drop, or 8" Drop — for Class III or Class V. The adapter cannot be added or changed after the order ships: 866-218-0902.
The Swing-Away allows the lift (with or without the scooter loaded on it) to pivot to one side, giving full access to the vehicle's trunk or liftgate without unloading the device. If you frequently need trunk access while the scooter is loaded — for grocery runs, errands, travel — the Swing-Away is a meaningful convenience. Without it, the lift must be lowered and the scooter driven off before the liftgate can be opened. Two options: AL105 (400 lb capacity, +$580) or the lighter AL105L (350 lb capacity, +$640). The AL100HD is an outside hitch-mounted lift — the scooter rides on the platform behind the vehicle, exposed to weather and road conditions. The AL600 is an inside hybrid lift — the platform slides into the vehicle cargo area and the device is stored completely inside the vehicle, protected from weather. The AL100HD requires no cargo space and works with virtually any vehicle with a Class III or V hitch. The AL600 requires 32" of cargo headroom and 46.5" of depth inside the vehicle but offers inside storage and a clear backup camera. If your vehicle doesn't have adequate cargo space or you prefer inside storage, see the AL600. If you prefer an outside lift and have the right hitch, the AL100HD is simpler and lighter at 84 lbs installed.
