Mor-Medical Deluxe New Era Infection Control 22 In. Shower Commode Chair
/
The Mor-Medical 22" Deluxe New Era Infection Control Shower Commode is the wider, higher-capacity version of the New Era platform — 22" internal width, rated to 385 lbs. Everything that makes the New Era design effective for infection control is unchanged from the standard model: seamless PVC frame held with high-tensile stainless steel bolts, no connector fittings to trap bacteria or fail, vinyl strap backrest with no foam, fully removable components for thorough disinfection between uses. The 22" width adds meaningful lateral space for larger users and makes transfers easier for caregivers working on either side of the chair.
This version includes a soft-touch slide-out footrest as standard — not a fold-down design but a true slide-out that tucks completely out of the way or extends for full leg support. The open-front removable soft seat with center section and 7.5 qt commode pail with lid are included. Three-inch twin all-locking casters. Rolls over standard and ADA toilets without the pail. Functions as shower chair, over-toilet commode, bedside commode, elevated toilet seat, and toilet safety frame — five functions, one chair, one piece of equipment to clean and disinfect.
Limited lifetime warranty on the frame.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this 22" model and the standard 18" model?
The 22" internal width provides more lateral space for larger users and makes caregiver access easier on either side during bathing. The 22" model also carries a higher weight capacity — 385 lbs vs. 310 lbs on the 18" model. The infection control design, frame construction, vinyl strap back, and included components are identical across both models. If you're between sizes, a good rule of thumb is to measure the user's hip width seated and choose the model that gives 1–2" clearance on each side. Call us with the measurement if you need help deciding.
What does the slide-out footrest do differently than a folding footrest?
A folding footrest folds down from a hinge — it can interfere with rolling the chair and add friction to transfers. The slide-out design on this model pulls out horizontally from under the seat for use and slides back in completely when not needed, leaving the front of the chair fully clear for transfers and maneuvering. It's a practical difference in daily use.
Why does the vinyl strap backrest matter for infection control?
Standard foam-padded backrests absorb moisture and harbor bacteria in the material over time — you can wipe the surface clean but the foam underneath retains contamination. The vinyl strap back has no foam, no hidden material — it's open weave and fully wipeable front and back in one pass. For immunocompromised users or anyone in a high-use care situation, that's a clinically meaningful difference.
Can it be used over a comfort-height toilet?
Check the chair's toilet height clearance specification against your toilet seat height before ordering. Comfort-height toilets run 17–19". Call us with your toilet measurements and we'll confirm fit.
Is this chair non-returnable?
Yes — as a hygiene product, this chair is non-returnable once ordered. Review all specifications carefully before placing your order. If you have any questions about fit or configuration, call us first.
