Nova Medical Deluxe Shower Chair and Commode
/
The Nova Medical 8801 Deluxe Shower Chair and Commode is the direct step up from the Nova 8800 — same reliable rolling commode platform, with two meaningful additions: swing-away removable footrests and a taller 16.5" backrest with a handle cutout for caregiver grip. If someone has their feet hanging unsupported during showering or toileting, or a caregiver needs better back control when positioning the chair, these are the differences that matter day-to-day.
The footrests attach and detach in seconds without tools, the footplates fold up for transfers, and the length is adjustable for different leg lengths. The bucket slides out from the rear of the seat without lifting the patient. Four 4" swivel-lock casters engage with a foot pedal. Padded seat, contoured waterfall armrests, backrest with handle cutout — all standard. Supports up to 250 lbs. Ships nearly fully assembled — snap in the backrest and attach the footrests and it's ready.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between this and the Nova 8800?
Two things: the 8801 includes swing-away removable footrests that the 8800 doesn't have, and the backrest is taller at 16.5" with a handle cutout for caregiver grip versus the 8800's 12" fixed back. If foot support during showering matters, or if the caregiver needs better control when maneuvering the chair, the 8801 is worth the step up. If neither applies, the 8800 is a simpler, lighter option at a lower price.
How do the footrests work for transfers?
The footrests swing fully away from the front of the chair, giving clear access for standing or seated transfers. The footplate folds up separately if you need the footrest in position but out of the way at foot level. They attach and detach in seconds without tools — a caregiver can remove them entirely when not needed and reattach quickly when showering.
Does the bucket remove without disturbing the patient?
Yes — the bucket slides out from the rear of the seat. Unlike some rolling commodes where the bucket must be accessed from the side, the rear-exit design on the 8801 means the caregiver accesses from behind the chair, which is typically a cleaner and easier motion during caregiving.
Will it roll over a standard toilet?
The rear seat support bar sits at 16.5" — this clears most standard residential toilet bowls. Measure your toilet seat height from the floor before ordering. The 18.5" width between rear legs accommodates most standard toilet bowl widths. Call us with your toilet measurements if you need to confirm fit before ordering.
Can optional accessories be added?
Yes — Nova commode bucket liners (20/box) are available separately and absorb up to 17 oz of fluid, simplifying cleanup. Call us to order alongside the chair.
