Hitch Height Check — Required Before Ordering
If your vehicle's hitch receiver is more than 14 inches from the ground, a hitch drop adapter is required so the SC500's folding ramp reaches the ground at the correct angle for safe loading. Measure from the ground to the center of your hitch receiver opening before ordering. The SC500's 48.25"×28" steel platform accommodates most full-size scooters and power chairs within the 27" usable width. The 60-inch folding ramp — stored beneath the platform when not in use — deploys in seconds and provides a smooth, wide loading surface for the device to drive up under its own power. The heavy-duty powder-coated steel frame handles 500 lbs with no flex or wobble when combined with the included anti-wobble collar on the hitch post.

Ten built-in tie-down attachment points are positioned along the sides of the platform — compatible with cam straps, ratchet straps, or any standard tiedown hardware. When the platform is empty, it folds vertically to a 4-3/4" folded position behind the hitch — no drag, no ground clearance issue, no wide load. No lifting required for the device. The 60-inch ramp folds out from under the platform, rests on the ground, and the user drives their scooter or power chair up the ramp using the joystick. Once on the platform, the device is secured with straps using the 10 built-in tie-down points. The ramp is then folded back under the platform and secured. A caregiver or the user handles the ramp fold — the ramp itself weighs a few pounds and folds flat with one motion. The carrier itself (80 lbs) is handled when attaching to or detaching from the hitch receiver.
The SC500's usable platform width is 27 inches — the width between the tie-down rails. Measure your scooter or power chair at its widest point (usually the rear wheels or armrests) and confirm it is 27" or narrower. Yes — in the standard configuration, the loaded platform behind the vehicle blocks access to the trunk or liftgate. The optional Swing-Away attachment (SC-SWING-AWAY, 44 lbs) mounts between the hitch and the carrier, allowing the entire platform — with the loaded device — to swing 90 degrees to the side, clearing the rear hatch completely. The AL100HD is a powered lift — it automatically lowers the platform to the ground, the device drives on, and the motor raises everything to transport height with a remote control.
