Hydrocolloid Dressings

Hydrocolloid Dressing contain gel-forming agents that, when in the presence of a wound exudate, they absorb the liquid to form a gel. In its initial state, most hydrocolloids are impermeable to water vapor, but when it comes in contact with the exudate of a wound and forms a gel, the dressing becomes progressively more permeable. When the water vapor passes through the dressing, it enhances the ability of the dressing to cope with exudate production. Hydrocolloids also have a unique feature that allows them to adhere to both a moist and dry site, unlike most other dressings.
