"Profile" — What It Means for Mid-Wheel Drive Power Chairs

Most outside vehicle lifts are designed around scooter geometry: a relatively flat, long wheelbase device with no significant protrusions above the deck level. Full-size power wheelchairs — particularly mid-wheel drive chairs — have a fundamentally different profile: large 14-inch drive wheels at the mid-point, front and rear anti-tip casters, joystick mounts, seat post geometry, and in many cases controller boxes and seating hardware that project above and behind the chair's base frame.

When a mid-wheel drive power chair is placed on a scooter-designed platform, the arm geometry can conflict with the chair's rear casters, anti-tip wheels, or frame. The chair may not sit flat. The hold-down arm may not reach the correct point. The lift may not clear the chair's overall height when raised.

The AL580XL's Profile arm is shaped specifically to address these issues. The arm geometry and platform dimensions (17.5"×27") match the footprint and height profile of full-size power chairs. The padded hold-down arm is positioned and sized for power chair frames, not scooter bodies. Hardwired or Battery Pack — Choosing Your Power Source

Unlike the AL100HD, where hardwired is standard and battery is an add-on, the AL580XL lets the buyer choose either power source at time of order. Both power the lift identically:

  • Hardwired to vehicle battery — the most reliable option for daily use. Direct connection to the vehicle battery means the lift is always powered without charging between sessions. Requires running a wire from the battery to the lift — straightforward for professional installation. Recommended for users who load and unload the power chair daily.
  • Battery pack — a self-contained rechargeable battery that powers the lift without connecting to the vehicle. Ideal for vehicles where hardwiring access is difficult, for users who prefer not to modify the vehicle's electrical system, or for situations where the lift is used across multiple vehicles. The battery pack requires charging between use periods — charge overnight with the included charger for daily readiness.
