Description

The Journey SoftSecure Uplift Toilet Assist Commode does something most commodes don't — it actively helps you stand up. A spring-controlled seat responds to your natural forward motion: lean forward, press down on the armrests, and the seat rises and tilts forward, bringing you up to a standing position without pulling on a grab bar or depending on a caregiver. No batteries, no electricity, no charging. It works the same way every time.

That mechanism is what makes this chair different from a standard over-toilet frame or basic commode. Those products provide something to hold onto. The SoftSecure provides actual mechanical lift assistance — the seat does part of the work of standing for you. For someone dealing with knee or hip pain, recovering from joint replacement surgery, or managing early Parkinson's or MS symptoms, that difference is meaningful every single time they use the bathroom.

Available in two versions: Standard (18" seat, 300 lb capacity) and Extra Wide (19" seat, 400 lb capacity).

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the spring lift actually work — do I need to do anything special?
The motion is natural. Sit with your hands on the armrests, lean forward so your weight shifts forward, and press down. The spring mechanism in the seat responds to that weight shift and tilts the seat forward and upward, bringing you to a "nose over toes" position that makes standing significantly easier. You're not being catapulted — it's a controlled, gradual assist that works with your movement rather than against it.

What happens if the power goes out?
Nothing changes — there is no power. The lift is entirely spring-mechanical. It works the same whether the electricity is on or off, which matters for anyone who uses the chair during nighttime hours or in an area with frequent outages.

Can it be used over my toilet or only as a freestanding commode?
Both. It positions over most standard residential toilets for direct use, or the included commode pail converts it to a freestanding bedside commode. It also works as a shower chair with a handheld sprayer. All three functions are built into the base product — no additional accessories required for standard use.

Which version should I get — Standard or Extra Wide?
If the user's weight is under 300 lbs and they fit comfortably in an 18" seat, the Standard is the right choice. If the user is between 300–400 lbs or needs more seat width for comfort and stability, go with the Extra Wide. If you're unsure, call us — seat fit is worth getting right on a chair used multiple times daily.

Is the seat waterproof for shower use?
Yes. The medical-grade closed-cell foam is non-absorbent and water-resistant, and the aluminum frame is rustproof. It's built for wet environments. Wipes down with mild soap and water.

Is this covered by Medicare or insurance?
Lift-assist commodes generally fall outside standard Medicare DME coverage for most users. Coverage varies by plan and diagnosis. Call us and we can help clarify what documentation might support a claim for your specific situation.
