Power Lift Recliners Southwest Florida
Power Lift Recliners — Try Before You Buy
at Five SW Florida Showrooms
A lift chair is a personal fit. Come sit in one — or several — before you decide. Our specialists help you find the right chair for your body, your condition, and your home.
Come In, Sit Down, and Find the Right Chair
Every Medical Department Store location has lift chair floor models you can sit in, recline in, and operate yourself. Walk-ins are always welcome — calling ahead ensures a specialist is available to spend time with you. Bring the person who will use the chair.
Serving Venice, Nokomis, Osprey, and South Sarasota County. A primary location for patients being discharged from Venice Regional and nearby rehabilitation facilities — our team is familiar with post-surgical lift chair needs specific to orthopedic and cardiac recovery.
Serving Sarasota, Fruitville, Bee Ridge, and eastern Sarasota County. One of our largest showroom floors — a wide selection of Golden and Pride floor models is typically available for in-person trial, including bariatric-capacity chairs.
Serving Port Charlotte, Punta Gorda, Englewood, and Charlotte County. A central location for patients across Charlotte County who need lift chair assistance after surgery at Fawcett Memorial or ShorePoint Health, or for ongoing management of circulatory conditions common in this community.
Serving Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Estero, Bonita Springs, and Lee County. Our Fort Myers location handles significant volume of post-discharge patients from Lee Health — if a doctor, case manager, or discharge planner referred you here, this is the location to call. We coordinate directly with discharge teams.
Serving Naples, Marco Island, North Naples, and Collier County. The Naples showroom regularly assists patients from NCH Healthcare and physicians' offices in the North Naples medical corridor. If you or a family member is managing a complex condition and needs the most therapeutic positioning available, our Naples team has extensive experience with that conversation.
Why You Should Not Buy a Lift Chair Without Sitting in It
A lift chair spec sheet tells you the maximum weight capacity and the fabric options. It cannot tell you whether the seat height lets your feet rest flat on the floor, whether the seat depth supports your thighs without pressing behind your knees, or whether the recline angle is comfortable for your back. Only your body can tell you that — and only in the chair.
Sizing Is Physical
Seat height, depth, and width are measured against your specific body. A chair that fits a 5'4" woman with short legs is not the same chair that fits a 5'4" man with long legs. There is no chart that substitutes for sitting down.
Conditions Change the Equation
Post-hip-replacement, the safe seating angle is different. With edema, leg elevation priority changes the position type. With arthritis in the hands, hand control design matters. Your fitter knows these variables — and they are in the showroom, not in a product listing.
Room Fit Needs Measuring
A lift chair in full recline extends 18–24 inches beyond its footrest. A Twilight-position chair tilts the entire frame. We help you measure clearance before the chair ships — not after it arrives.
Features Make Sense In-Hand
Reading about Twilight Technology is different from sitting in one. The difference between a 3-position and an infinite-position chair becomes immediately obvious when you try both. Twenty minutes in the showroom saves weeks of returns and remorse.
Medicare Starts Here
If you are pursuing Medicare Part B coverage for the seat lift mechanism, the documentation process starts with a specialist who knows exactly what your physician needs to write. We walk you through it in the showroom before your doctor's appointment.
Service After the Sale
Every chair we sell, we service. Five locations, in-home service calls available. Buying locally means a repair call goes to a team that knows your chair — not a national support line.
What to Expect at a Lift Chair Showroom Visit
A lift chair visit at Medical Department Store is not a sales presentation. It is a guided evaluation — a conversation between you and a specialist who has helped hundreds of Southwest Florida patients find the right chair for their specific situation. Here is what that looks like:
Brief Intake Conversation
Your specialist will ask why you are looking at a lift chair — what condition, surgery, or daily challenge prompted the visit. This is not a medical evaluation; it is the context that shapes every recommendation that follows. Be direct. The more your specialist knows, the better the match.
Height, Weight, and Sitting Measurements
Your specialist will note your height and ask about your weight and approximate seated hip width. These determine which size range to start from — and narrow the floor models to try first. This takes about two minutes.
Sit in Two or Three Chairs
Your specialist will bring you to two or three floor models that match your size and positioning needs. You sit in each one. You recline. You use the hand control. You tell your specialist what you like and what feels wrong. This is the most important part of the visit.
Position Discussion
If you have edema, circulation concerns, back pain, or specific post-surgical restrictions, your specialist will show you the relevant positions on the chairs — zero gravity, Trendelenburg, Twilight tilt — and let you experience whether they address your actual symptoms.
Home Placement and Room Clearance
Before you purchase, your specialist will ask where the chair is going and help you confirm you have the right clearance — wall-to-chair distance for recline, doorway width if needed, and whether a wall-hugger model is appropriate for your space.
Medicare, Insurance, and Payment
If Medicare coverage applies, your specialist explains exactly what documentation your physician needs to provide — before your doctor's appointment, not after. FSA/HSA eligibility, financing options, and white-glove delivery are all discussed before you leave.
- The person who will use the chair (not just measurements)
- A family member or caregiver if helpful
- Your physician's name if pursuing Medicare coverage
- Room dimensions if you have concerns about clearance
- Any discharge paperwork noting positioning restrictions
- Your insurance card if billing assistance is needed
Walk-Ins Welcome
No appointment necessary — walk in to any of our five Southwest Florida locations during business hours. Calling ahead (Mon–Fri 9AM–5PM, Sat 9AM–3PM) ensures a specialist is available to spend focused time with you rather than being pulled in multiple directions. For complex situations — bariatric, post-surgical, Medicare coordination — calling ahead is strongly recommended.

Medicare Coverage for Lift Chairs — What to Know Before Your Doctor's Appointment
Medicare Part B may cover the seat lift mechanism portion of a power lift recliner when it is medically necessary for a qualifying condition — typically severe arthritis or a neuromuscular disease that significantly limits the ability to stand from a seated position without assistance. Medicare covers the lift mechanism only, not the chair frame itself.
The documentation process requires specific language. Your physician must document the qualifying condition and write a prescription using terminology Medicare recognizes. In many cases, a Certificate of Medical Necessity (CMN) is also required. The exact wording matters — and it is common for physicians who do not regularly prescribe DME to use language that does not satisfy Medicare's criteria.
Call Before the Doctor Visit — Not After
Call any of our five locations before your physician appointment and tell us you are pursuing Medicare coverage for a lift chair. We will tell you exactly what your physician needs to document and write. A 10-minute call before the appointment can prevent weeks of delays, rejected claims, and repeat visits. 866-218-0902.
What Medicare Covers
- Seat lift mechanism — the motorized lift component
- One seat lift mechanism per beneficiary as medically necessary
- Subject to Medicare Part B deductible and 20% coinsurance after approval
What Medicare Does Not Cover
- The chair frame, upholstery, and all other components
- Heat and massage features
- Premium positioning features beyond the basic lift mechanism
- Lift chairs purchased without a qualifying diagnosis and physician prescription
FSA and HSA funds can be used for lift chairs in most cases. Many private insurance plans cover lift chairs differently than Medicare — call us with your insurance information and we will check your benefits before you purchase.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I try a lift chair in person near Naples, FL?
Medical Department Store's Naples showroom at 13030 Livingston Rd has lift chair floor models from Golden Technologies and Pride VivaLift you can sit in and operate before purchasing. Call 239-529-2242 to confirm specific models are on the floor before your visit. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours (Mon–Fri 9AM–5PM, Sat 9AM–3PM).
Is there a Golden Technologies lift chair dealer near Fort Myers?
Yes — Medical Department Store at 8595 College Pkwy in Fort Myers carries Golden Technologies lift chairs including the Cloud, Relaxer, EZ Sleeper Slim, and EZ Sleeper series. Call 239-482-6111 to speak with a specialist or confirm which floor models are currently available for in-person trial.
Can I try a Pride VivaLift chair in Sarasota before buying?
Yes — our Sarasota location at 3672 Webber St carries Pride VivaLift floor models including the Tranquil 2 and Radiance. Call 941-923-7556 to confirm current floor model availability. Our Sarasota showroom is one of our largest floors and typically has the widest selection of in-stock models available for immediate trial.
What lift chair should I get after hip replacement surgery?
The right lift chair after hip replacement depends on your surgeon's specific positioning restrictions (usually a 90-degree hip flexion limit in the early weeks), your height, and whether you need the chair for short-term recovery or ongoing daily use. For most post-hip-replacement patients, an infinite-position chair is more appropriate than a 3-position, because it allows precise angle control throughout recovery. The Pride Tranquil 2 PLR-935 in the correct size is frequently recommended for post-surgical patients. Come into any of our five locations — bring your discharge paperwork if you have positioning restrictions — and a specialist will match you to the right chair for your recovery stage. Call 866-218-0902.
Do you carry lift chairs for people with edema or CHF in Southwest Florida?
Yes — and edema and CHF are among the most common reasons our Southwest Florida customers come in specifically for lift chairs. Managing lower leg swelling requires Trendelenburg positioning — feet above heart level — which requires an infinite-position chair with that capability. The Pride Tranquil 2 PLR-935, Golden Cloud PR-527 with Twilight, and Pride VivaLift Ultra PLR-4955 all deliver true Trendelenburg. A specialist at any of our five locations can show you this position in person. Call 866-218-0902.
What is the best lift chair for sleeping — not just napping, but full-night sleep?
The Journey Perfect Sleep Chair is the only lift chair in our inventory designed specifically for full-night sleeping. It lies completely flat, includes heat and massage as standard equipment on every model, and has a 5-zone positioning system. It is built for patients with GERD, sleep apnea, respiratory conditions, post-surgical discomfort, or any condition that makes sleeping flat in a bed painful or unsafe. A Petite version is available for users under 5'5". Floor models are available at our showrooms — call 866-218-0902 to confirm availability at the location nearest you.
Does Medicare cover lift chairs in Florida?
Medicare Part B may cover the seat lift mechanism — the motorized component that raises you to near-standing — when medically necessary for a qualifying condition such as severe arthritis or neuromuscular disease. It does not cover the chair itself, heat, massage, or premium positioning features. Documentation requirements are specific, and the process works best when you call us before your physician appointment so we can tell you exactly what your doctor needs to write. Call any of our five locations or call 866-218-0902 before scheduling the prescription visit.
What happens to my lift chair when the power goes out during a Florida storm?
This is one of the most important questions to ask when buying any lift chair in Southwest Florida, where multi-day outages after major storms are a genuine risk. All Golden Technologies lift chairs include a battery backup system as standard equipment. All Pride VivaLift models include lithium battery backup. Every chair featured on this page includes battery backup. If you are considering a chair that is not on this page, confirm battery backup before purchasing — being stranded in a reclined chair during a power outage is a serious safety concern.
Do you deliver lift chairs in Southwest Florida and set them up?
Yes — we deliver lift chairs across all five service areas (Sarasota County, Charlotte County, Lee County, and Collier County) and offer white-glove delivery service where a technician brings the chair into your room, unpacks it, powers it on, demonstrates the controls, and removes all packaging. For patients being discharged from a hospital or rehabilitation facility, our Quick-Ship lift chairs are in-stock models that ship within days. Call 866-218-0902 to schedule delivery or discuss timing with a hospital or rehab discharge.
Do you service lift chairs you did not sell?
Yes — any brand, any model. In-store service is available at all five Southwest Florida locations, and we offer home service calls for chairs that cannot be easily transported. Motor replacement, hand control repair, lift mechanism service, and upholstery work are all handled. Call 866-218-0902 or contact your nearest location directly to schedule service.
Is there a bariatric lift chair showroom near Fort Myers or Naples?
Yes — the Golden Cloud PR-510 Extra Wide (up to 600 lb capacity) and other bariatric-rated models are available at our Southwest Florida locations. For bariatric patients, an in-person fitting is especially important — seat width, seat depth, and weight-bearing comfort across the full range of positions all need to be evaluated in person, not from a spec sheet. Call 239-482-6111 (Fort Myers) or 239-529-2242 (Naples) to confirm current bariatric floor model availability.
