The 500 lb capacity applies to XWide Medium and XWide Tall only — all other sizes are 400 lbs. 9-volt battery backup batteries are not included. 49 Individually Pocketed Coil SpringsThe seat uses 49 individually pocketed coil springs — each wrapped in its own fabric pocket and moving independently under the body. Unlike flat foam seats that compress and flatten over years of daily use, pocketed coil springs return to their original shape every time the user stands. Hand-Stuffed Split-Seam Back + Full Chaise PadThe hand-stuffed backrest is densely padded and ultra-soft — the seam placement moves load away from the center of the spine, and the stuffing is firmer and more uniform than machine-padded backs. The full chaise pad eliminates the gap between seat and footrest that standard recliners leave, providing continuous support from seat to ankle throughout the full recline range. Arm covers and headrest cover are included standard on all sizes.
Low Wall Clearance — As Low as 16"The PR-531 requires as little as 16" of wall clearance (Petite/Small and XWide Small) — one of the lowest requirements of any Golden lift chair. The Tall requires 21", the XWide Tall 21", and the Large 19". For patients placing the chair in a smaller room or close to an existing wall, the PR-531's minimal clearance requirement across most sizes is a meaningful space advantage over infinite-position chairs that typically require 21"–27".
Simple Two-Button ControlThe PR-531 uses a simple two-button hand control — one button reclines, one button returns to upright. No programming, no memory positions, no zones to manage. When seated, feet should rest flat on the floor with knees near 90 degrees. The Large and XWide Medium share the same height range (5'5"–6'0") — the difference is seat width and weight capacity. Both use pocketed coil seat construction and are available in multiple sizes. The PR-535 adds MaxiComfort infinite positioning — the seat and backrest move independently to any angle, reaching zero gravity with feet above heart level and Trendelenburg with feet above head. The PR-531 is a 3-position chair — upright, TV watching, and full recline only. The PR-531 covers more sizes (7 vs. 6) and has lower wall clearance requirements across most configurations. For patients who need only lift assist and comfortable recline to three fixed positions, the PR-531 is the simpler, lower-cost path to the same coil-spring comfort. For patients who need zero gravity or Trendelenburg, the PR-535 is the right choice.
Extra Wide sizes have wider seats (23"–29" vs. 21"–23" on standard), wider overall frames (34"–40" vs. 31.5"–34.5"), and higher weight capacity (500 lbs on XWide Medium and XWide Tall vs. 400 lbs on all standard sizes). The Extra Wide Small has the same 400 lb capacity as standard but a wider seat. The XWide Medium and XWide Tall are the 500 lb configurations. All Extra Wide sizes use the same coil spring seat and full chaise pad as standard sizes. 3-position mechanisms push the footrest forward less aggressively than infinite-position recline systems — the chair reaches its full flat position with less forward footrest travel, which means less clearance from the wall is needed. The PR-531 Petite/Small and XWide Small need only 16" — among the lowest wall clearance requirements of any lift chair we carry. For patients placing the chair in a smaller room, this is a meaningful practical advantage. Even the Tall and Extra Wide Tall configurations need only 21".
The back attaches via slide rails on both sides of the base — slide the back down into the rails and it locks in place. Golden recommends two people for assembly since the back can be unwieldy for one person to manage alone.
