4 Q'Straint Retractors · Two Attachment Methods · No Modifications
The AL500's retractor system is exceptionally adaptable. Four self-tensioning Q'Straint retractors secure the power chair without any drilling or modification to the chair — they attach using one of two methods depending on the chair's construction: a spreader bar that slides between the seat and seat post, or metal loops that attach directly to the chair's frame. The padded hold-down arm further stabilizes the chair during transit by gripping the frame and minimizing bouncing or lateral movement. This dual-method attachment means the AL500 works with virtually any power chair design on the market.

The Stars-N-Stripes perforated aluminum deck is Harmar's patriotic signature — both a design statement and a functional anti-debris platform surface. The AL500 works with Class II or III hitches — a Class III adapter is included standard, but Class II compatibility gives it broader vehicle reach than many competing lifts. Both use the identical 26" × 39" platform and the same Q'Straint retractor system. The AL500 has a 350 lb capacity, weighs 75 lbs installed, and works with Class II or III hitches. The AL500HD steps up to 400 lb capacity, weighs 77 lbs installed, and requires a Class III hitch. If your power chair weighs between 350 and 400 lbs, the HD is required. When unloaded and folded, the AL500 extends only 12" behind the bumper — one of the most compact folded profiles of any outside platform lift. Adding the optional swing-away increases that to approximately 14". Most standard garages with typical clearance accommodate the AL500 in its folded position.
