About Medical Adhesives for Ostomy Care

Adhesive removers dissolve the bond between the skin barrier and peristomal skin at each pouch change, reducing the mechanical force needed to remove the barrier and protecting fragile or sensitive skin from stripping. Ferndale Detachol is a non-irritating organic solvent-based remover; alcohol-free remover wipes are available for patients who cannot tolerate solvent-based products. Barrier rings (Hollister Adapt CeraRing and standard barrier rings) are moldable hydrocolloid rings placed around the stoma before the barrier wafer to fill in skin irregularities, creases, and folds — preventing effluent from tracking under the barrier and extending wear time. Mastisol liquid bandage adhesive is a medical-grade skin adhesive that enhances the bond of tapes, dressings, and ostomy accessories to the skin surface — particularly useful in areas prone to lifting or for patients with difficult-to-adhere skin.
