About Peristomal Skin Barrier Wipes & Adhesive Removers

This collection covers three categories of peristomal skin care products that work at different stages of the pouching cycle:

Protective skin barrier wipes are applied to peristomal skin before the barrier wafer is placed. They deposit a thin polymer film that sits between the skin and the adhesive — when the barrier is removed, the film absorbs the mechanical peel force rather than the skin surface, reducing cumulative stripping damage over repeated changes. ConvaTec ESENTA is sting-free and alcohol-free, effective for 12–72 hours. Hollister Adapt wipes are alcohol-free with aloe vera — not recommended with extended wear barriers, as the film may reduce adhesion time. Coloplast Assura Prep creates a medicated invisible film that dries quickly and allows the skin to breathe. Smith & Nephew No-Sting Skin-Prep delivers up to 96-hour protection, is CHG compatible, and has been pediatric-tested — suitable for wound care, catheter sites, and ostomy applications.

Adhesive prep enhancers work in the opposite direction: rather than protecting the skin from adhesion, they increase it. Torbot Skin Tac wipes deposit a tacky latex-free adhesive layer on the skin that improves the bond of barriers, tapes, and dressings — useful for patients with oily, moist, or difficult-to-adhere peristomal skin where standard barriers lift prematurely.

Adhesive removers are used at barrier removal to dissolve the adhesive bond gently and reduce stripping trauma. Hollister Adapt No-Sting Adhesive Remover Spray uses a silicone-based, alcohol-free formula that evaporates quickly and sprays from any angle via 360° technology — precise application at the barrier edge without contaminating the wound or stoma site. Available in 1.7oz (portable) and 3.4oz (home use).
